so last year I signed up for a two-year contract with a UK provider for an iPhone 4, never considering that I might end up in Korea. Times changed, and here I am in Daegu with a brand-new alien registration card and an unlocked iPhone 4. I want to get Korean coverage for the phone, because obviously I don't want to pay for a new phone given that I've got a pretty good one that I only bought last year (and I'm still paying for).
This seems to be pretty difficult. I only want to get coverage, not a phone, and I want it for twelve months rather than two years. However, when I went into the Olleh shop, they wouldn't sell me anything other than a two-year plan, and then they wouldn't sell me a two-year plan because my E-2 visa expires in October 2012. I'm not sure what to do, as the KT English phone people have given me conflicting answers and the olleh_expats Twitter feed seems to think I have to go to a "Global Store" in Seoul (which would take a whole day and 80,000 won) to get it activated (http://www.twitlonger.com/show/dj70cc). Can anybody help me? |

Google "KT Olleh Expat Blog"
Some info there. Check out. |

Sure, I've done that. That was where I found the olleh_expats Twitter feed. I was hoping that there might be somebody on the forum who has solved a similar problem to mine and who could give me some pointers, because every Olleh representative seems to have a different opinion about what I can do. |

Try another Olleh shop in Daegu or an SK Telecom shop (your iPhone can be used with either provider). It sounds like the person you talked to simply didn't know what he/she was doing, which is not at all uncommon when it comes to dealing with foreigners in Korea. You certainly don't need to get a 2 year contract to get service for the phone. |
