Hi, I am a Notary Public with offices next door to the FCO in Milton Keynes England. I have seen many postings raising queries regarding legalisation of Criminal Record Checks (CRB) and Educational Certificates. I also receive many instructions to arrange legalisation of documents from which it is apparent that information about the process is unclear. The following may be helpful to those wishing to legalise UK documents.
In the UK the FCO legalise documents with an apostille. They will only put an apostille on an original CRB, not a photocopy. The FCO will put an apostille on a photocopy educational certificate. The South Korean authorities accept legalised photocopies.
The FCO will require the CRB to be issued by a recognised authority and signed either by the authority or by a solicitor or notary. The FCO will require the photocopy educational certificate to be signed by a solicitor or notary. The solicitor/notary will need to see the original before signing a photocopy.
The process can be achieved by post. My website has more general information at www.healdlaw.com/notary |
