Hello,

I'm hoping to find a university or adult education job in SK, preferably Busan or Seoul.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience in either, or a good idea of what is expected in terms of experience. I have a Master's Degree (not in Education or English, but a degree at least, it's an MFA) and I taught for 6 months in SK before. I also have a bunch of tutoring and Graduate Assistant work under my belt.

My main issue is I'm not entirely fond of teaching younger children and am trying to limit the amount I have to teach them.

When do you want to come to Korea?

That will determine if you can work for a PS or a University.

For the better university positions you start behind in the race because you have very little experience and an unrelated MA. You could still land a mid to lower tier University position if you apply during hiring season and if you are IN Korea when you apply.

Unigwons may also be a decent option as could other adult hakwons.

It'll be hard to get into Busan or Seoul because you're competing with people who have a lot of experience, but it's not impossible. I recommend doing some research and making a list of all the junior colleges in both cities and sending out an application package around mid-October/early-November. It would help your chances if you were already in Korea, if that's a possibility for you.

I assume you can only start at universities in September or January?

I'm hoping to come as soon as I can get a job and a visa...so hopefully by October/November.

Does anyone have any good leads on university hagwons?

IMO Seoul is pretty competitive.

i think you need a little more experience to get a Uni gig in Seoul these days. there's a ton of people applying for those jobs with some nice credentials.

i would start with getting the adult school gigs and then try and make my way into the Uni's. i have a friend taking the same path.

What would you recommend including, beyond a CV and a cover letter, in any application package that you send out? This does not include applications for university job ads found on eslcafe that request specific documents etc.

Except for that, nothing at the early stage but please visit the websites for these institutions and PAY ATTENTION to their application requirements because if you do not meet these requirements your application will simply be rejected out of hand.

This can be as simple as not including the proper documents....
