|
|
I have an interview with a hagwon in Deagu later today. My job history and responsibilities are accurate and correct, however I quit my last job in February of this year and have not had a job ever since. I have been taking care of my father, since he has cancer. My address listed on the resume is a different state than the one listed for my last employer. Long story short, should I lie and state that I'm still working for the company or be honest and advise them of my current situation? I'm leaning towards being honest, but I don't want it to rule out job opportunities right off the bat. Any help is greatly appreciated. Or stretch the truth and say I was let go due to downsizing and have been looking for a job ever since? |

If you do lie then they would find out about it before they try to get you a visa, so you would just lose a couple days on the job hunt. From what I heard though, only the high end international schools actually call or check references. |

For a Korean hagwan they won't make calls outside of Korea to verify anything.

Does this apply for only an E2 visa, because I would be getting an F4 visa? |

It applies to internationally accredited international schools and if you don't have an education degree, a teacher's license and more than 2 years of experience you won't be getting a job at one as anything more than a janitor.

Was actually referring to the first sentence about finding out when they try to get you a visa. Not sure how they would find out when getting the visa, so that is why I questioned it. |

Proper international schools check you out before they apply for the visa issuance number. If you don't check out you don't get the job offer or a visa (E7).
Private schools and language academies (E2 jobs) do NOT typically call anyone outside of Korea to verify anything. They may call previous employers IN Korea if they can.
Heck, if they didn't have to have your documents verified by Kimmi before you can get a visa there wouldn't be any checks at all (like prior to 2006).

Be honest. They will verify work history in SK and not in the US. Taking care of one's parents is considered a very positive trait so feel free to mention it to them. |

They don't probably because you have to get a fbi check, that should say a lot about a person, plus a degree help as well.
