I'm just looking at their website as I need to buy some furniture, I've heard people say good things about them, but I'm questioning if it's 'legit' as some of their prices look too good to be true.

Anyone had any experiences with them?

GMarket is like Amazon/Ebay stores. They aren't a store as much as they are a gathering place for sellers

Check the ratings - high ratings are reliable. Low ratings aren't necessarily UNreliable - they might be new.

Remember, you get what you pay for.

A cheap couch is cheap for a reason - cheap materials, cheap construction, etc. That being said, my friend got a sofa for 80-100k and it lasted for the year, no trouble. I buy lots of stuff there and haven't had any trouble with them.

It's legit, they just avoid the status markup that you so often end up with in Korea.

i live and die by my gmarket account.

free or cheap shipping to your door, you can find almost anything, you don't have to fight throngs of people, very cheap prices on most things, and crazy stupid amounts of coupons and mileage and all those other sweet toppings koreans love so much.

Pretty much every piece of furniture I own, my son's wardrobe, and probably 2/3 of the foreign groceries in my kitchen. Gmarket is legit and being able to use it has boosted my quality of life here in Korea exponentially.

Thanks for all the information!

I'm going to order some things from them today... does anyone have any advice on how to handle the fact they don't specify a delivery date or time? I work in a school so I'm out most of the day...

Also, what do they mean by 'payment on delivery'? Do they want me to give them cash when they bring it? It's confusing because the website asks for my debit card details!

the payment on delivery is the delivery fee which is typically 2,500 won unless noted otherwise and can be paid in cash upon delivery or when the order is made. i pay this when i make my order because if you pay upon delivery and aren't home when the delivery is made you aren't going to get your items.

whenever i order it takes anywhere from 1-3 days for shipping and i always note on the order to leave it at my front door if no one is home in both english and korean. even then about 50% of the time the delivery man calls my handphone while i'm at work and i tell him to leave it at my front door. if you live in a place that you don't trust leaving things at your door you might want to note to leave it with the building manager or an establishment near you that you are familiar with.

I've had mainly good experiences with the sellers on Gmarket. I've bought TVs, tennis rackets, computers, furniture, flight tickets, and a host of other stuff. Great prices, and usually great service, but do read the reviews as they will warn you away from certain sellers.

For furniture, it gets pricey. I bought a sofa bed a year ago and when it arrived, the delivery guy wanted 60,000 Won. That really blew out the savings in cost, but aside from flat out refusing there was nothing I could do.

If it says Pay on Delivery and doesn't quote you a price, it could be high.

you can register a foreign card, a korean card (which you have to have online banking and digital certificates to use), use bank transfers, or their mileage points.

i chose bank transfer. they assign you a bank number for any of the banks in korea. you go to your atm, transfer into the bank account, it registers almost instantaneously and then you're good to go. i'd use my korean card but i've been too lazy to set up online banking and those digital certificates annoy the piss out of me. plus i go to the atm often and a short stroll isn't too bad instead of pounding my head on my keyboard and installing 7 million active x controllers.

i also pay with my foreign card sometimes since you don't have to have the digital certificates.
