Here's the situation.
Came here at the end of April to work for a hogwan (was here for 2 years before that). Long story short, the company is not doing well, and a month after I got here they combined the a failing branch into our branch, thus giving us way too many teachers and not enough students. I was the last one to sign a contract of all the native teachers, and sure enough a month later there were rumors of layoffs coming.
So I've been working since then with this over my head. A coworker was just told he was getting laid off, so he has to the end of this month, Oct., to leave. I fear that I am next, or the school will just close.
In addition, it is a horrible place to work. In less than 6 months a bunch of korean teachers have quit. Morale is low, and the place is just horribly horribly disorganized.
To prepare for whatever is coming my way, I've applied to public schools, both SMOE and gangnam. Of course, they start at the beginning of March.
So I am racking my brain with the visa situation:
To get my current job, I had to apply with a National CBC, so I'm hoping that will remain in whatever system immi has set up and I won't need another one.
BUT, the question is, can I leave the country for 3 months like I've heard and not have to get another CBC?
In essence, I think I have two options provided the hogwan is still in business by spring next year:
1) (Unlikely but ideal): Ask my current employer if they will give me a release letter in Feb. and just transfer my visa to the public school....and pray that this is good enough for the public school.
2) Resign, leave the country (end of nov., dec.,) and come back within 3 months so I don't need a new CBC (i'd either come back on an e2 applied for overseas, or on a tourist visa, stay a little while, and then leave on a visa run).
This one is a little tricky because my employer requires a 60 day notice, so if I resign they could just get rid of me after 30, and if they get rid of me come end of nov., it's 4 months till possibly start my new position.
As a note, I don't think I can work through the end of January because I'm sure that the public schools will have started processing my visa then and since I already have an e2 that might cause some sort of immi conflict.
Anyway, I tried to make it as concise as possible, but any insight or other ideas you guys might have would be great.
Thanks. |
