|
|
4 years passes quickly and jack all was done about this.
The implications are clear:
Whatever state holds primaries early has more influence.
Even though the last democrat primary went the full length, people were choosing between 2 candidates at the end of it.
Those two candidates were determined by other states.
The argument for Iowa and New Hampshire to ALWAYS go first is:
_________________________________________________________
Nothing, no reason other than tradition.
The best solution to this is for a)Iowa and New Hampshire to grow up and cease their thumb-sucking privilege and b) let it rotate; let some go first this time, let others go first next time
It sounds kind of like primary school, but the biggest problem is:
Thumb-sucking by Iowa and New Hampshire.
So I write to them:
Hey, Iowans and New Hampshirites,
You've done a good job of choosing candidates (George W Bush comes to mind), but maybe, as we are 50 states, we don't really need you to exclusively do this.
Maybe, just maybe, you should be happy that you've had what, a good century of weeding down the prospects for yourselves and come to understand that there really is no empirical ground for you to do this forever.
Remember kindergarten? Remember sharing? No, I guess you don't, or you'd have brought this up years ago.
Well, let us move on to first grade... |

Insulting Iowans and New Hampshirans, insulting everyone else who didn't think to post a thread like this . . .
You're off to a great start Nowhere Man.

Dear Abbie,
Ya know how TV weathermen sometimes refer to 'the lower 48' or 'the contiguous 48'?
From time to time, I've wondered if Canada would be interested in buying Oregon.
Sincerely,
An Iowan |

No state should be first every year. As much as I love New Hampshire . . .
But isn't this a party affair? I'm not sure the people have much of a voice on this one. |

As I understand it New Hampshire is favored as an early primary state because it's small. Candidates can cover the whole place on a small budget.
Don't know about Iowa. Sorry. |

Sure they do.... as voters in their respective states. The Constitution grants the states the right to determine when they will hold their primaries. |

Yeah! Sorry, I forgot about the part in the Constitution that recognizes political parties.

Thanks for that. My blame was not directed at the board but rather the country as a whole, but humoring your sense of tact is also not high on any radar of mine, Mr Money. |

Yup. I knew you couldn't help yourself. But at least you are skirting the TOS. |

TOS? Rather than waving around TOS, just report me, assuming you have anything that merits bringing it up.

That sounds like the closing lines to a GOP bedtime story. |
