Pro - School saves money on a recruiter - which can be used to possibly increase something else like pay.

Con - School does not get the advice and console of a recruiter in regards to visa questions, paperwork, and so on. Some schools know the process and the deal, but others can be really ignorant. Chances of delays and even blowups can increase. This can be offset a bit by the teacher understanding the process themselves.

Yeah, when my school has hired directly I've been the one explaining the process to them (and this is a big school where we have someone who is paid in large part to do just that).

Newbie applying from abroad for the first time = NO advantage by not using a recruiter.

Disadvantages = neither you nor your employer likely have a clue when it comes to dealing with the paperwork and you are the one likely to get screwed when the crud hits the fan.

Experienced in Korea, have connections, speak/read/write Korean = not needed. Use your network.
