|
I am not saying those handbags are not worth of the money.
I am actually saying they are ugly.
I remember when I first saw them in China, I didn't know that brownish cloth is Louis Vuitton, I just thought: hmmm, those bags are so ugly. I dislike the pattern.
Later I got to know they are expensive (extremely expensive) I kinda felt: yeah, they are actually not that bad looking.
Is it just me or anyone else here think so too? I am not whining because I can't afford any of them, I am just sick of this twisted aesthetic psychology.
Or please just tell me they are really beautiful, the Apple product in fashion industry etc ...it's me being an outlier. |

I'm sure I've never seen a real one. Maybe if I did, the secrets of the universe would be revealed. The fakes are definitely ugly though. |

haha.
I actually saw many real ones. They are well made, high quality looking.
But I just never like the color the pattern, I guess that's why once they are not well made (like when you see the fake ones), they look ugly.
There are many patterns that have been used everywhere, like the stars and the stripes, Che Guewara, Obama ( ), I heart NYC. etc
I actually quite like them, i believe they got popular not because they are luxury brands, but that people truly think they look good. |

Are you Asian, Panda? I can't remember.
But what you just said represents my biggest problem with people (a trait I have found in excess in Korea) - that is, because something is expensive, it suddenly becomes desirable regardless of it aesthetic qualities. This is viewed as extremely tacky where I am from. |

I am not subject to this psychology, that's why it is so mysterious to me. Why does it seem to only happen in handbags. |

Some of their bags looks less ugly than the normal brown LV bags. If you browse through their store, you'll probably find at least one bag which is average looking. I have never seen anyone actually carrying one of the average looking bags, it's only the ugly ones you see people carry. |

Someone in the industry told me that except for the high end ones LV bags are mostly composed of PVC.
In other words (if this is true) Louis is laughing all the way to the bank selling plastic junk to gullible fashion sheep.

I have a superior at my current job who is a crazy fashion loony (trying to move into fashion industry now) and according to him this is 100% true, he's said the same thing to me before. LV isn't the only company that's like that according to him, but they might just be the worst offender.
This is the case with many designer eyeglasses as well, they're not made of anything special, they're just as cheaply made as anything else and don't last any longer or do anything better except make people think you're richer.
(To give you an idea of how loony, all of his clothes are by 3 labels, and they are the only 3 labels he is willing to wear for anything, he even decorates his house with housewares from those labels.) |

this is not entirely true. many designer glasses use superior lenses. for example on mirrored lenses the designer glasses sandwich the tint in between two layers. for the 5 dollar aviators on the street it's a coating that can be scratched off. you can tell the difference because when you wear the cheap dollar stall glasses it looks like it's nite time no matter what time it really is, and with good glasses you can actually see.
as for bags, i don't know, but i do know it's a bit pointless to rant about how ugly bags are. it's all about personal taste. |

Some cheap sunglasses are very bad. Of course you wont get the same quality if you pay $5 as if you pay $200, but you'll probably be able to get the same quality a lot cheaper if you find quality no-brand glasses (which is true for pretty much every commodity). But for normal glasses you'll buy the lens separately anyway. I assumed he was referring to prescription glasses. |

I agree that the LV bags are ugly. My little sis loves them, though. She's got 2 and the large wallet as well. We've got an epic bag collection, combined, but she always goes for the brand-name prints, and I go for the (usually) hand-made, (always) well-made leather stuff.
As for eyeglasses, you do often get what you pay for. When I was younger, my parents would get me the cheapo frames, and they were always breaking, even though I was pretty careful by the time I was a teenager.
Now, I have at least 10 pairs of designer eyeglasses and 5 pairs of shades, for which I've only ever needed to replace lenses or nose pads, with the exception of one temple that my dog chewed up. |

There's a difference between gas station sunglasses and Oakleys, but there's basically zero difference between mid-range brands like Oakley or Rayban and high-end designer stuff (Prada, Versace, D&G). They're all manufactured by the same Italian company, Luxottica.
Oh they also own LensCrafters.
It's quite a racket they've got going on. |
