Did anyone read that the monkey that was on the loose had HERPES? wow...how did it get that in the first place! And a lot of people said it was inhumane to shoot the animals, but safety first is the right thing to do is it not? |

I feel like they could have erred on the side of caution without wiping out eighteen members of a species whose total population in the wild is less than 2,500.
The two things I come out of this with:
1) How in the hell do you acquire eighteen freaking tigers? The guy must have been loaded, to say the least.
2) Being from a small town myself, I have an image of good ol' boy cops enjoying the slaughter that I just can't shake. |

I am sympathize with the idea that they could have tried harder to bring them in alive. On the other hand, I also can sympathize with the police. Imagine the outrage if some kid got mauled and it was public knowledge that they had a chance to shoot the tiger and didn't. I don't imagine local animal control is equipped to deal with such a situation and it would take a while for the zoo to come out and help. Tough situation for them. I think the bigger question is how the hell is it legal for some felon redneck to own 18 endangered jungle cats?? |

I can definitely understand where the cops were coming from, but I know this would be happy fun time for the town cops where I'm from, at least to a degree. |

I read an article earlier that said he went to exotic animal auctions and picked up animals that people had gotten as cubs and no longer wanted when they started getting older.
I'm fine with people having crazy small animals like spiders and snakes, but tigers and bears? Umm... |
