|
|
I found a (somewhat) inexpensive flight to the Philippines for my upcoming winter vacation. Problem is, I would arrive in Manila airport around midnight, and my connecting flight doesn't leave until several hours later. I don't get to stay in the terminal, either, since my my connecting flight would be booked with a different airline and I would have to re-check in.
Is there anywhere safe to sleep in or near Manila airport? Should I just stay awake all night in the airport? Or should I just cough up the extra US$200-300 to arrive during the day? |

I spent a night there a while back. Flew in around midnight with a flight out at 8am. Services were pretty bleak, there was a snack bar open, thats about it. There were benches on the terrace where I caught a bit of shuteye in the warm night air with my pack as a pillow. I felt safe (male, though).
About 6am the restaurant opened. Met the brother of the mayor of Iloilo in there who stood me all the San Miguels I could drink before I stumbled onto my connecting flight. Fun!
Definitely a funky airport, feels more small town than major international. On two different occasions (years apart) I encountered a guy openly jerking off in the urinal in the departures washroom. |

Stay in the airport. Traffic is horrible there. Take some snacks, charge your mp3, and just chill and enjoy the adventure for 7 hours. Who knows, you might even hook up with someone! |

If you're staying in Terminal 3, I'd keep my stuff close by because MANY Filipinos sleep at the airport to catch early flights and you never know what can go missing. I once did that and didn't get much sleep, so my advice is to just head into the city and get a hotel for a night. |
