I saw a teenager carrying her backpack on her front today, a first in my life, and it made me think, Why not?

Last week I saw a construction worker pack dirt into a plastic backpack hoist it onto his back, climb up onto the site and drop the dirt by squatting and releasing the dirt through a door on the bottom of the backpack, a first in my life, and it made me think, Why not?

Often I have seen men carry huge boxes on their backs instead of trying to hug them like is done back home, and it made me think one would need a good sense of balance and skill at squatting to do it. But if able to, Why not?

And of course I long ago saw the emergency 119 phone number, and I've thought, Why not?

What other things are literally done backwards in Korea? (It may or may not be outdated)

Syntax here is backwards to my way of thinking, but english syntax is equally backwards to a Korean. "Backwards" is also a loaded term all but certain to draw out the bashers on this forum.

the backpack on the front thing happens elsewhere. a lot of tourists in europe wear them in front to ensure that no one can steal anything out of them (i don't like doing it, a tiny lock acheives the same thing.) I've also seen it done in very crowded locations-you can see how far it is sticking out, so you don't bump into anyone/anything with it.

Koreans use cash and credit cards more. In the U.S. I usually see checks and debit cards to pay bills.

The majority of Western girls will 'put out' before marriage. Many of the K-girls I know won't.

Westerners drink beer directly from bottles or cans. Koreans serve it first.

Um, Korean guys have hairless arms, western guys don't. *LOL*

children for parents Laughing

that backpack thing has been around for years. I often did it with a smaller pack on the front and my huge one on my back when we were slumming round India many years ago. In actual fact, it is more comfortable as the smaller pack counterbalances the pull of the other one.

Parking. Koreans insisting on backing into a space instead of simply driving into it,, thereby taking twice as long to get in there, not to mention holding up traffic in both directions. 'There's no one on the road but mee!' Arrghh.

When there is something to celebrate in your life; b-day, new job, scholarship, salary raise, etc, people expect you to treat them to a fancy dinner or to take them out for free drinking. I hate it! ! !

You can go to the CD shop downstairs of the Hamilton Hotel in Itaewon or to any of the CD shops in Kangnam Staion. They might have A, B, and C on the same shelf, but C will come first, then B, then A. Still find what I'm looking for usually anyway.

I haven't found that but they do alphabetize based on the first name. Bob Dylan is under B not D. Paul Simon is under P. Bookstores seem to go by the last name though.
