My boss wants a monthly project for our students to do. Excessive if you ask me, but this guy turns everything up to 11.

So for the upper level classes, they are writing one page reports on things like "The country I want to visit" or "My favorite animal" etc.. Then putting that on a poster with pictures of the relevant topic.

I need something for the lower level classes. I mean these kids can't even put a sentence together and he wants them to make an entire poster. I told him it was just well beyond their abilities so he wants some more ideas.

Go over various terms for countries (ie, capital, border, city..whatever is appropriate for level). Then, have them create their own country in groups. Make posters out of it. Structure the poster, so that they have to fill things in, and make an example.

So, they draw a map and a flag, give it a capital, draw forests, mountains, rivers, etc. They name anything major. Depending on level, include currency, industries, etc.

Have them plan a trip to a real place, or one of these countries. They create an itinerary, and make postcards. Dialogues can be added, if they are high enough, for basic conversations one may have while traveling (hotel check in, airport check in, etc). This may be too high for yours

Not related: have them create inventions. To what level they put work in is up to you. Mine do it on paper, and I don't require feasibility. I give a few examples.

Use the tops of the box that A4 paper comes in. Have them create a dream house inside them. Of course, they could do this on paper, but putting in a box seems to add a sense of something that makes it different and exciting. They can draw, or use origami papers. Windows, furniture, etc, are all good things to add. Use whatever supplies you have to had....milk cartons, etc.

My hubby had great success having his kids create a shopping mall. One girl made an everything pink store, or something like that. Not too keen on the consumerism aspect, but hey...

Design restaurants, menus, etc, then have them interact. Give them money to use to buy stuff at the restaurant.

Too high? Have them outline themselves on large pieces of paper, them draw themselves in. If they are really low, go over colors and shapes first, and follow a theme for coloring in with shapes, etc.

Make basic musical instruments if they are young (shakers in bottles, etc.) I know it's not a poster, but it is project oriented. They can create "band" posters to go along with it.

Get them to draw a picture of their favourite _______(topic) and then colour it in and around the picture instruct them to write words that describe said picture.
