Hey there,
A recruiter has just offered me a public school position in Hanam that starts ASAP.
Two questions... is this possible/good? Also, how's Hanam? Any experience.
Quick responses are much appreciated.

Bump!
(Sorry, but I'd really like to know a bit about the area. Like, how long will it take me to get to places like Jamsil or Itaewon?) |

Its pretty far if I remember right.
Think like 30min by bus to the subway station. It's seems close but expect over and hour or so to get to Seoul proper. It's a nice quite small town fell place if thats what you like. |

Thanks!
I've found one site that says I could probably get to Jamsil in half an hour. So yeah, it's a bit out, but not too far.
Is it unusual to have a public school hire at this time of year?
Yes, I've asked for a native teacher's email address.
Fingers crossed that this is a good job. |

I live fairly near Hanam...drinking there later today actually :0
I think it is a nice enough place, MUCH bigger than the tiny village I live in. Have some mates there and they rate it. Jamsil is around30 mins away. Not sure Itaewon. Many buses anyhow.
People start jobs at public schools thru the year so may not be a bad sign...I will ask around tho, in case someone has quit. |

Thanks Valkerie!
I was told that they need a new teacher because they simply need more staff. Hopefully it's not that a teacher couldn't handle the school. Optimism. |

Well, pm sent, but not sure of you got it or not..
I used to live there and know alot of people in that area. Its not a bad area, but it is about 40 minitues to Seoul.
Nice area if you are into hiking and outdoor stuff.
I can give you some e-mail adresses of people I know there. |

Beautiful area. Clean air, compared to Seoul... nice river and lots of trails. I only go there to meet Koreans, so I'm not sure about the western aspect, but that's where I'll be moving to raise my kid next year -mainly because it's clean and quiet. |

OP-I asked some local teachers last night and was told there are at least 3 schools still looking for native teachers so it seems unlikely you would be replacing a runner. |

Hey,
I'm in Hanam now. I've just arrived today. Does anyone know where I might find a bank machine that accepts my Canadian debit card and credit card? Also, is there a one stop shop sort of place (like a homeplus) in Hanam?
I live near City Hall, if that helps.
Thanks all! |

You're going to have trouble finding a machine in Hannam City that accepts your Canadian cards. You may even have trouble finding such a machine in Seoul. Sorry. You MAY get lucky if you can find a 7-11. I've never seen one in Hannam City.
My wife says there is a large department store not too far from city hall area. I don't live there, so I can't give you directions. Hopefully, one of your neighbors can come on here and help you out.
How's your apartment? |

Hey, thanks for the reply. I know that Citi Bank accepts foreign cards... that's what I used in Changwon. I'm sure there's a place in Seoul, but I'd like something closer if possible. Fingers crossed!
My apartment is actually pretty awesome. Last year I was in a single room with a closet sized bathroom. Here in Hanam I have a kitchen, living room, two balconies, a bathroom with a tub, and two bed rooms. I'm happy with it!
Anyway, if ANYONE knows where I can take out money in Hanam city, that'd be awesome. |

CitiBank accepts foreign cards? Man, the city bank I lived near a year and a half ago would not accept my US Citibank card!
I had to go to a KB or HANA thirty minutes away. I swear. Accidentally one night, I tried a 7-11 machine and it actually worked! I was shocked.
Anyway, your apt., sounds GOLDEN!
Are you at a HS, MS or elem? If you're at a elem or HS, chances are you'll be teaching one of my nephews.
I hope you like the place. We'll be moving there soon (not too soon, but one day in the not too, too distant future).
Good luck with a cash machine. |
