Hi folks,

I'm leaving next week and my hagwon has just produced a pension bill for me and my partner to pay (W 1,100,000 each). We've not been paying anything all year and they authorities contacted the boss last week asking for our contributions.

We are British/Irish citizens and want to know what our options are. I've been to the NPS website and I've gotten a little confused about the opt-out for the Irish PRSI contributions and all of the other sub-clauses in there.

I guess I want to know if we can get away without paying this massive lump sum before we leave. What are our options?

Also, we've been here 11 months and we're going home early because the new teachers are arriving earlier.

Yes. The academy really wanted the new couple to start in November. We've not been fired and we get our bonus and flights paid. Do you think that because we're only here for 11 months we might be able to leave without paying?

Pension and severance are separate issues. Pension is paid every month.
