TinPan started doing ID checks on the door a few weeks ago. Last night there was a 5,000 won cover charge for men (ladies were free, or men were free before 11pm).

Is this a permanant change, or was it just for last night? Why the recent ID checks? Is it all something to do with the increase in streetfights outside Tinpan? (i've seen lots of streetfights there recently....usually more fighting in the summer months anyway)

Nah, dude that was me. I always stand by the door when I go there and charge people a cover to come in. It's a great way to earn extra cash, and improve my improvisational skills.

Unfortunately I don't go that often because it's too crowded there, and people eventually figure out that I don't really work there, and then kick my ass out front (hence the street fights).

Not really, but that would be funny huh.

Last night they seemed to be charging 10. I was very shocked and deeply saddened.

Why worry? Tin Pan sucks. Every time I go there I feel like I'm at a high school dance.

It's about time they started doing something about that fire hazard. The guy who owns (runs?) B1 told me he's going to start charging too.

The irony of someone whose alias is "Bradley Daiquiri" acting high and mighty over frat guys is too much for me.

Good.
A higher percentage of chicks, and less scumbag guys and wallflowers.

Fantastic! Now I have a concrete reason to dissuade my friends from dragging me there every weekend. Ugh, that place utterly blows. Maybe it cool a few years ago, but now, it really makes me wonder who WILLINGLY goes there.

Maybe two years ago it was a great place. Good DJ, atmosphere and easy Korean women. Now it's full of guys and you can't even move. Same story with Tin Pan.

The clubs always move on.....

White people are sheep and they only want to stick with their own. So they pack themselves into sweaty little clubs full of other white people, because they're scared to hang out with the local populace. (If that makes you angry to hear, replace 'white' with 'asian' and nod in agreement.)

And if someone like me posts about how I hate going to clubs with lots of whities, I'll be bashed for NOT wanting to be around other Westerners. Then it'll turn into a 4 page argument between the people who say hi to other whities on the street and the people who look away and ignore them.

This is Dave's... people are going to bitch no matter what you say.

I wouldn't agree that white people are "scared" to hang around the local populace as you said. But you're right in that they tend to seek other westerners, even if it means being in an uncomfortably tightly packed pub/club.

The local populace seem to be very shy in approaching each other. They live with their mothers. They tend not to have passports. They only speak one language. I'd rather talk to some big ass Canadian who i can identify with more easily. (Im not Canadian, and i'm not commenting on the size of Canadian asses in particular....i'm just using Canada as a general example).

Sure, TinPan is kind of crap and nobody really wants to be there...but it's a good fallback policy if everywhere else is empty. Yes, the cover charge might keep some wallflowers away, and give us more room....but i'd feel kind of shameful knowing that i paid to get in there. It's not the money, it's the principal. I don't know whether i'll actually pay to get in next time. We'll see how it goes.

It's worse than a high school dance. Try frat house dance, minus the rufies???

I hate all those places. I hate the people who go there all the time, too.

They only play rap music anyway.

Hate takes up too much energy. Try pitying them, instead.

Ever hear some girls say, "I just like dancing!" or "I love to dance!" citing those reasons as excuses for going to such places? "It relieves my stress!" ring any bells?

Shouldn't dancing be an art of some kind?

How does standing in a dirty, large room packed full of hornbags, listening to terrible music and swaying awkwardly count as a love of dance or good taste? I've been to those places and the atmosphere is quite miserable.

The guys are just there to pick up and the girls are just there to... um, "I love dancing!" I don't know why girls go to places like that because I get the same damn answer everytime.
