Too bad that this ignores the whole phonological/morphological rules.
i before e except after c works, IF you know the sounds.
Iciest doesn't fall into this category because it should be "icyest." We just have another rule where y becomes i. If we changed the spelling, then the word is wrong.
All the words that they were showing on the board there ignores the fact that the rule is to be applied to "ie" and "ei" combinations. When you have two syllables coming together that happen to end and begin with these letters, and breaks in the sound, it doesn't apply. |
