Hi,
I am a non military US citizen. I will be on Yongsan base this weekend for an event.
Question is: Can i buy western products there? Are there grocery stores or department stores that i can use. Is it necessary to be military? Do they take KRW? |

No to everything, except maybe using korean won. You might be able to buy little things at the convenience stores. For everything else you need an military ID. |

The Commissary and Exchange only take US dollars. They are open only to SOFA-status personnel and their accompanying dependent immediate family members. The restaurants on the base, however, are open to everyone and do take won. |

Grocery stores may also require a rations card. Then again I haven't been on the base in a few years. |

Grocery stores only require a ration card if you aren't using a current active duty ID card. So if you're a retiree, or a dependent, you need a ration card.
Since you're going on base I can only assume you have an escort. why doesn't your escort buy some things for you? It's frowned upon by superiors in the military, but it happens all the time. |
