As a Canadian, if I am backpacking through Thailand for under 30 days but I don't have proof of leaving the country (because I am backpacking), will I have any problem once I arrive in Thailand if I just tell them I will leave the country in less than 30 days?
I read this on the website for Canadians in Thailand:
If a you are planning on staying in Thailand for 30 days or less as a tourist and have a return ticket out of Thailand (or proof of leaving within 30 days), then you do not need a visa.
Any info would be great! Thanks. |

| You're more likely to get crap from the airline flying you there than you are from Thai immigration officials. They're very, very used to people passing through without tickets out of the country, and it's more or less impossible to book a bus ticket through to Laos or Cambodia beforehand. That said, the airline might be a bit of a pain in the ass, as they have to foot the bill to fly you back if you're not allowed in and don't have the cash to buy a ticket out. |

| @northway: So how should I deal with the airline then? Should I have any paperwork prepared? Its not like they can deny me to get on the flight. |

Actually, if you don't meet the requirements for visa free /visa waiver entry, they WILL deny you boarding (since they are responsible for the cost of your removal and they get fined for bringing you here if you don't meet the requirements and are denied entry).
Typically, you need proof of funds and sign a liability waiver (if you are refused entry you pay them for your removal) and they will let you board.
It is far easier to just get a cheap (disposable) ticket from BKK to Cambodia or Laos and save yourself the grief.

| Okay, thats good to know. I didn't realize the airline was so strict about that. Does that go for flying into other SE Asian countries like Cambodia or Vietnam too? |

Almost all countries if you do not have a visa (actually stamped into your passport prior to your travel) in advance and are traveling by air.
