|

To all boxing fans, don't forget that Manny Pacquiao is fighting Juan Manuel Marquez Sunday morning (KST) for the third time.
Bars that should have it include 3 Alley, Dilinger's and a host of others that have their TVs hooked up to the Web.
I'm thinking the fight will start between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. |

Are you 100% sure that these bars will have it? This is the most pumped I've been for a boxing match this year. Until Cotto vs Margarito 2 that is.
Anyone been checking out the 24/7 series? Marquez looks like a monster compared to his former self, but Pacquiao looks so much more focused and intense. Of course it could all be to hype up the fight. I hope Pacquiao wins just because it Marquez wins, it would decrease the possibility of Pac fighting Mayweather even further. |

| They've had Pac-man's other fights so there is no reason to believe that they won't have Sunday's fight. |

| Scrooge across 3 Alley pub will definitely be playing the fight, they're Filipino-owned. |

Scrooge isn't Filipino-owned, it's Korean-owned with (illegal) Filipino staff. |

I'm thinking (and so are most experts) that Pac-man will devour Marquez at the higher weight considering how the latter sucked so bad against Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
What should be interesting is the prior fight involving undefeated Timothy Bradley and Joel Casamayor. Bradley could be next in line to fight Pac-man if he beats Casamayor. |

At first glance, Marquez was apparently robbed but a closer look says the fight should've been a draw. I do think, however, that I would've given the split decision to Marquez, and I can understand how his camp feels that it's been robbed yet again.
One thing that came out this fight: Floyd Mayweather will beat Manny Pacquiao if they fight. Mayweather made Marquez look so helpless and clueless and I have a feeling that Pac-man could have similar trouble against Mayweather.
And of course, Mayweather moves to the top of the world pound-for-pound rankings. |

If you would've given Marquez a split decision, then why should it have been a draw?
Marquez got robbed, no ifs ans or buts about it. |

Great display of pugilistic mastery by both guys.

Personally, I wouldn't say it's a robbery. It's an interesting and very difficult fight to judge. I felt Marquez landed the cleaner blows more consistently, especially with his straight right hand. But Pacquiao was more aggressive, came foward, threw more punches, and the last few rounds of inactivity really hurt Marquez. I have no qualms about the decision but it was very very close. I also felt Marquez didn't commit to his combinations as much as before because he didn't want to go down again. He was a bit too cautious I think. It makes me wish championship fights were 15 rounds again.

I agree. Marquez landed that lead right hand almost at will and Mayweather has the best lead right hand in the business. The biggest problem for Pac for all 3 fights was that Marquez can catch him coming in while he's off balance. I think against Mayweather, who's more adjusted to 147 and faster than Marquez, it will be a big disadvantage. People who gave Floyd crap for not knocking out Marquez were crazy, and the same goes for people who thought Pacquiao would KO him yesterday. People don't realize just how good Marquez is, and how much even better Mayweather is for tooling Juan. The only thing Pacquiao can look forward to against Floyd is that Mayweather has a lower workrate than Juan.
A 38 year old Mexican coming up from weight just gave the number 1 guy in the world all he can handle.
All I wish now is that please please please make Mayweather and Pacquiao fight eachother in May like the said. [/quote] |

What I've been reading in boxing blogs is that the fight WAS close and could have gone either way but that the three judges were American, and that American judges tend to favor aggressiveness. Marquez's trainer mistakenly believed that his boxer was ahead entering the final round and so Marquez merely avoided the knockout.
Most analysts say the fight was a draw, and I'm saying I would have given the win to Marquez, but I'm no boxing expert. One expert says scoring boxing isn't just about who won the fight; you have to put a score after every round then add them up after the 12th.
I'm not saying Marquez didn't win the fight but after a closer inspection, the decision was not "robbery."
And no, it was a great move by boxing to cut the number of rounds from 15 to 12. Fighters can get seriously hurt in the later rounds and it's a sport, not a gladiatorial contest to the death. |
