Hey hey,

So I'm going to Korea, and I can't wait, but one aspect of the Great British Life that I just can't live without is footy. The time differences will probably kill off any live matches, but Korea is pretty into football isn't it? K-League is pretty massive there and there's a few South Koreans in the Premier League over here. Is there anywhere in the big cities that shows games?

If not I'll have to suffer with what paltry little the internet can offer, but I plan to get totally involved in the K-League Very Happy

Dude, you will get more live footy than back in the uk.

You get the 12:45 kick off Saturday, a choice of two 3:00 kick off on Saturday one on an English commentary channel one on a Korean channel and then at 5:00 the live late match on the Korean channel and a taped replay of a 3:00 kick off on the English commentary channel.

So count so far is 5 games on Saturday. The Korean channel then shows 3 more back to back matches from Saturday.

Sunday will show the 2 pm game on the Korean channel, the 3 pm game on the English channel and the 4 pm kickoff back on the Korean channel.

All Monday and midweek games are shown live too on the Korean channel if you dig the whole 5 am kick off times.

Also live FA cup, coca cola cup and champs league and Europa league.

Not enough? Scottish premier league, Spanish and German footy shown live also. In fact there is more live footy than the uk because of the live 3 pm games on Saturday.

Enjoy.

I think you add 8 hours to the kick off time in England. Roughly, you'll be able to see about 6 (give or take a couple games depending on who is playing and time) or so games. Man Utd games are almost always live because JiSung Park. Most of the top teams will be either live or delay. Whats your club? Any club with a Korean player gets seen (Man Utd, Arsenal, Celtic, Bolton?).

Have someone order a cable package that includes SBS Espn for the EPL games and MBC Sports for the Champions League games. The CL games come on live at 4:45AM midweek.

The main issue you will have is that the EPL games will start Saturday night and you have to make a decision to party at the bars or watch games. Some bars will show the game if you ask them if they don't have it on already. Also, the EPL games and the CL games get replayed a few times as well. There is also a highlight show.

A korean will have to help you with the schedule from the net. Its in Korean.

Who's your club?

United actually, I thought Park might be a big draw for South Koreans. So a 3.00PM kick off will mean an 11.00 match at night in Korea, that's not too late I suppose. Though I can't imagine many bars staying open that late, I'll see how it goes when I'm there. Maybe some kind of Sky+ device is needed for recording stuff.

I've got to say, I'm very impressed with what's on offer though, is there much interest in English football over there?

There are no licensing hours here. If you're in Seoul, particularly Itaewon, many bars stay open until the last person leaves. It's usually daylight at that time.

Hollywoods bar in Itaewon is a good place to watch footy. I've watched 5pm kick offs there (which is 1 or 2am here), not a problem at all.

Not anymore!! The clocks went back as of this weekend, the time difference is nine hours. A three o'clock kick off would now be midnight, and a champions league game during the week would be quarter to five!!

The bars are just getting going at 11 or 12. With British winter time kicking in, the 3 o'clock games will start at midnight now. You can watch football at almost any time if you know the places. I watched a European game the other week, and left the bar around 5 in the morning - there were still a good few people there when I left.

Baseball is still probably the number one sport here, but there is a massive amount of interest in the EPL. Most of my college students have a healthy interest in football, and love talking about it in class. The baseball season is about to end, so there will be no conflict in schedules and the amount of footie on TV usually increases during the off season.

Where are you going to be living? If you're in a middle to large sized city, I don't envisage any problems in finding a place to watch the games. If you're in a smaller place, I would advise getting a full TV package, which will cost around 30,000 won a month (15 pounds).

BTW I wouldn't get too excited about the K-league. The crowds are usually pretty low and the standard isn't that good. I also think the season is close to finishing, and it won't start again until the spring.

In watching football per sa less so. More of an interest in the Korean players that play, Ji at the best team in the world being the most popular, he's the Becks of Korea, and probably made more Man Wons than Golden Balls himself!!

Playing football is massively popular here. When I walk to work at six thirty in the morning there's a group of men playing on the local school pitch every morning. At the weekend pitches are booked well in advance, so yes football and the EPL is dead popular. Manchester United is the most popular team by a long shot, but hey can you blame them!! There is no way Park makes more than Beckham. Beckham is a global brand and Park is just a Korean player on United.

That said, you can catch quite a bit of soccer action on Korean TV. Champions League is available on MBC Sports + and Premiership stuff on SBS ESPN and Star Sports. Sky EN carries Spain's La Liga and MBC Sports + has German soccer action, mostly teams that have Korean players.

Anyway, you have nothing to worry about and the game will be replayed ad nauseum as well, so if you have something to do when its played live, don't worry, Sunday or Monday morning (depending on whether its a Saturday or Sunday game), will be shown the next day in its entirety and probably the whole week several times.

Listen here Yaya boy, I'm the personal accountant for the pair of them. ji makes more than Dave, I take 10% of what they earn. Due to being bored on my paradise island that is home I get to troll boards like this one. Sorry but I need to get back to topping up me tan before I have a late afternoon exotic message prior to a few sun downers and the finest Cuban cigar. Then I will be accompanied to dinner by one of my many women who are part of my harem. Being an esl 'teacheer' in Korea sure must suck!! Dream on and stop laughing at your own joke (or attempt at one). Pathetic.

this is not England ......bars don't shut up shop at criminally early hours like 11pm back home Laughing

If there is a game that involves any Korean player (Man Ure / Bolton / Arse) then you're pretty much guaranteed to be able to see the game. I've watched plenty of games in the early hours of the morning at bars throughout Seoul no problem.

I especially hate when Man U. fans or commentators describe Man u. as 'The Reds'. They are not 'The Reds'. Liverpool are 'The Reds'. Man U are 'The Red Devils'.
