Am looking for someone who does this sort of thing. I have a friend who has a macbook that got broken. Mac wants inordinate amounts of won to fix it, and he doesn't want to buy a new one.
Is this easy to do? |

It's very easy for desktops, a little research needed for laptops. Search for tonymacx86 - you'll find everything you need. |

I came across Kakewalk. Not sure I want to get into installing it on a current computer, for example. I know nothing about Macs. They seem to have some configurations that work easily with Kakewalk (assuming one could get the parts here).
Have any experience with that? |

Don't worry about kakewalk. Go to tonymacx86.blogspot.com and click on the recommended builds. He has done all the work for you, incredibly simple installation.
Have a look at it and ask questions in the forums if necessary. |

Lifehacker dot com did a really good how to quide. I would consider it as the parts list was only around 600. The thing that was really intriguing was that about a week ago they updated the guide with a mac mini hack that was like 400.
Anyway I don't imagine it would be that tough. About the only real tricky part is tweaking the BIOS menu when you first fire it up. But like I said there are about a million websites that can guide you....like lifehacker.
Good luck. |

There's actually a guy on here (cant remember his screen name but he advertises on craigslist as well) who fixes Macs for a fraction of what Apple will charge. I ended saving about $300USD.
It's up to you to decide whether it's worth it to fix or buy a new one though. |

The builds aren't even that complicated--basically an Intel Processor and nVidia graphics and you're good to go. |

Certain HPs contain almost exactly the right hardware identical to macs. My year-old HP Mini 311 is apparently one of the easiest to hackintosh. A lot of mid-range netbooks (4~500,000won) are apparently very compatible... although I imagine certain drivers may be stunted a bit (for example, bluetooth or HDMI). I'm pretty sure that the basic requirements are a decent Intel chipset and nVidia graphics. Search Google and be sure. |

I have a Hackintosh desktop and I use an ATI card, but I think nvidia has more support. I simply followed the instructions on http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/ and I am now running Lion. It took some tweaking to get it working 100% but it is all good now. |

I tried to install OSX on a Thinkpad T60.
The program installed correctly, but there were issues with supporting drivers (keyboard or wireless, etc...).
Ended up going back to windows. |
