I am looking to improve my internet speeds. I get fast speeds, but I want faster. I currently have SK internet, but I don't know what I pay for, or how much I pay. It is all done in my wife's name. Also, unfortunately we also have the SK TV service, so changing would be a big deal.
I have heard that SK internet sucks these days because of the tsunami in Japan? (true?)
What would I need to get the fastest internet possible? I have a gigabit ethernet cards (as do most people these days) and cat6 cables. I guess I would need a 1000mpbs router, and a special modem (is this provided by the company?)
What company is the best, and how much would it cost me?
I was unable to find any pricing through Naver, because I don't know what they call their internet services.
Would I be able to sign up for ONLY internet with another company and keep my current TV service with SK? I realize this might be more expensive than getting a package, but changing the TV service is not really an option at the moment.
Thanks for any help! |

There are a few threads about the subject. The latest one was http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=213126 , but some of the older ones were more comprehensive.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "fastest internet possible". Do you mean a 100 Mbps line is not enough? Unless you are going to set up a major web server, I doubt you'll need a 1000 Mbps router. For home use I am very happy with my KT FTTH line. 150 ms latency to American game servers, ~5 MBps download speed from Korean servers all for 35.000 won a month. Installation and modem was included as long as I used the subscription for at least one year. |

When I run speedtest I get download speeds of around 60ish mbps. I was hoping for faster. |

Does your building have a fiber-optic hub? If not then you're stuck with a copper wire connection which will top out at around 55-60mbps.......typically, only newer high-rises have fiber-optic hubs which can give you 95mbps. |

Router can limit the speed of your downloads.
I have the 100mbps connection with KT. I had your normal 30,000w DLink router. The max speed I was getting was around 3MB/s.
I noticed something was up because when I plugged the ethernet cable directly from Modem to my PC, the speed was around 8-9MB/s. I bought a new gigabit gaming router (150,000w) and the speed is around 7-8MB/s. Still not as fast as being plugged directly to my PC, but fast enough. |
