|
|
Hi,
I have windows 98 and recently graduated from college. At my college, they had a network, so everytime you turned on your computer, it asked for your username and passward. I'm trying to get rid of this irritating feature. I now have the regular windows log in screen instead. Any help getting rid of this would be helpful
Thanks,
AlyAllen |

Go the the network settings in start-settings-control panel then click open network
... or right click on network neighborhood icon on desktop and select properties
In network settings click on Configuration tab
Look for the Primary Network Login Box. Here you should select Windows Login. Then click OK.
Windows will then ask if you'd like to reboot your computer. Choose No.
Then go back to your Control Panel. (If you have closed this window click Start - Settings - Control Panel to bring it back).
Double click on the Passwords Icon. Click the Change Passwords tab and then click the Change Windows Password button. Then click OK, and leave a blank password.
You will need to reboot for the changes to take effect.
If however you had Client For Microsoft Networks selected in the Primary Network Login box every time you start your computer you will still be asked for the password. Failing to enter the correct password would mean that Windows wouldn't let you join the network you are a part of.
If you would like Windows to still log you in without needing to enter a password you will need to use a program called TweakUI which you can download from our downloads section. Installation instructions for Tweakui come with the download.
Once you have TweakUI installed open it up - Start / Settings / Control Panel double click on the TweakUI icon.
Click on the Network tab (on some TweakUI versions you will need to pick the Login tab).
Enter your username and password that you use to login to your network and put a tick in the "Log on automatically at system startup" checkbox. |

Hi snufalufagus,
You wrote, "Then go back to your Control Panel. (If you have closed this window click Start - Settings - Control Panel to bring it back). Double click on the Passwords Icon. Click the Change Passwords tab and then click the Change Windows Password button. Then click OK, and leave a blank password."
But my password icon didn't supply that tab, the tab I have is something to the effect of "user password properties." Nothing about passwords or changing passwords in any way. I'm confused.
