I was very impressed by this paper I came across. Has anyone else seen it before? Basically raises critical question of resistance to culture of English in Korean ELT, gross incompatibility with values of Confucianism etc.

I recommend taking a look. Should be required reading for anybody coming to teach out here. |

Whe I was doing research about second langugae teaching....a number of authors pointed out that the culture of the classroom should be that of the community outside the classroom rather than that of the target language.
The articles I read certainly convince me. If and when I have control over a classroom, I will be trying to do this as much as possible. |

| I am of the mind that using the local culture and adapting English to it works best in the classroom. Eight years of teaching in Korea has shown me this is correct. That said, you can't 100% remove English influenced culture from your teaching. It is all in the balance and being able to balance. |
