Not cheap anywhere. Try them out at the huge headphone store in Daehangno and have someone ship you the model you like from home.

Ebay then have them shipped is the best way. Put a dollar value of $100 dollars and you are set. Make sure the seller on ebay is a reputable one and the price is decent. If its too good to be true then.....

I listened through at least a few dozen popular models (and barely touched on 1/5 of what they had there) at that headphone store in Daehangno last week.

My favorites were the Grados (not the most expensive ones, but one down from that), and a certain Sennheiser mid-level model. I was actually surprised to find that I liked a pair of Bose headphones (not the noise-cancelling ones.

Did you audition any Beyerdynamics? DT-880s are unreal--blow the lid off Beats (no great accomplishment, to be fair).

No, I ran out of time. But i tried the dr.dre models and was only impressed with the build strength, not the sound.

By far the most efficient were the Sony models. Doesnt take much power to make them loud, and huge bass. Sound quality was average in the mid to highs, but they really thump. Solid build quality. Massive princess leia-sized ear pillows. Not insanely expensive. But my overall vote was for the one Sennheiser model I liked. If you listen to accoustic guitar a lot, the Grados are really in a league of their own.

I have the ears of an old man now, and have no place reviewing headphone sound quality, but it sure was a lot of fun! If I were young again, I'd probably spend hours in that place day after day. Enjoy your ears while you are young, and don't mistreat them. They will begin to suck after age 35-40 or so. Raising a screaming baby who likes to whine in your left ear doesn't help, either.
