Has anyone had any experience withdrawing funds from a Korean bank in SE asia? I'm with KB (Kookmin bank) and Busan Bank, and I'm wondering which one is better to have an international debit card to withdraw funds from?
I'll be in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia.
Any info would be great! |

They both MAY work.
They both may not.
One may work and the other not.
Korean bank cards are hit and miss at the best of times for foreign use by foreigners.
Have a backup plan if they don't work and have some cash with you as well.
Oh, and also be aware that the service charges from the foreign banks (in SE Asia) will be as high as 6k won per transaction + Korean bank fees and many machines have moderately low transaction limits (sometimes as low as $100.

Using Korean cards overseas is so unreliable and can cause so many headaches it's just better to leave them at home. I don't care how much your nice English-speaking bank teller assures you the card will work, it probably won't, and if it does you'll likely have complications. This is the voice of experience, if you can't tell, ha ha. |

If you don't want the worry go and open a KEB account and get the Global card. I have used it in Thailand on countless occasions without problems. I also know of a dozen other countries where people have used it successfully. Can't understand actually how a foreigner would use another bank in Korea, what with all the services they have geared towards waygooks. As was mentioned though, the ATM transaction fee will be steep; 150 TB in Thailand. |
