So first time teaching adult classes. I did 1:1 before for a bit but now I'm teaching actual classes.
We're using books called "Top Notch." Before I used books called "Touchstone." They're essentially conversation books however they seem to be more on the listening side than the speaking side.
Anyway, I need some ideas for how to teach them. I'm really not used to teaching adults. I thought I was doing well because when I asked them if they understood and did comprehension checks, they always said "yes" even if "yes" means no. I should have expected that already but here we are, so I've decided to go a lot harder on them and drill them more.
Any ideas for making these textbooks come alive more and stir discussion? Asking questions to get discussion going doesn't seem to help as they seem to be pretty shy. Getting them to speak within the confines of grammar patterns from the textbook yields the same results as well. Anything is appreciated. |
