I need to contact Asiana about trying to reserve a bulkhead seat with bassinet for travel with a baby around Christmas. I'm trying to fill out a contact form online, but that's part of the problem- I cannot remember or find my frequent flier number, and so cannot fill out the form. Does anyone have a contact e-mail for Asiana? If not, a phone number would be second-best...thanks!
Also, I'm confused because when I reserved the ticket it said it was Asiana, but when I got the confirmation it said it was Asiana but OPERATED BY Air Canada (yuck), and that when I checked in I should check in with the operating carrier, so Air Canada. I'm hoping this is just like another flight I took once- basically Asiana with a LITTLE Air Canada interference. This flight is Seoul to Vancouver. I also could ask this question about reservations to Air Canada, I suppose (rather than contacting Asiana) but of course there is no way to e-mail them, only a number on their website. (And I would just rather do things by e-mail because I hate being on hold on the phone, especially if I am calling internationally using Skype).
Thanks for your help! |

Unfortunately the Seoul-Vancouver route is a Star Alliance Code-Share flight operated by Air Canada. Asiana does not fly passengers into Canada with their own planes, that task belongs to Air Canada. Or maybe you can try Korean Air, who do fly into Canada with their own planes.
However Asiana does operate cargo flights into various Canadian cities like Calgary and Vancouver. But that probably wouldn't help you unless you have some connections to hitch a ride on a cargo plane. |

Since Asiana is no more than a ticket sales agent of Air Canada in your case, given 'operated by Air Canada', indeed you need to make arrangements with Air Canada.
As you've observed, they do not put up any of their e-mail address on their Korean website and all contact is advised to be made by phone +82-2-3788-0100 including request for a bassinet, or to be submitted on their website where it regards passenger mileage or 'ombudsman.' It looks to me quite deliberate to not publish even their representative e-mail address, and I suspect that they're unlikely to respond promptly, if ever, to online submissions even if you give that a try. |

Hmm...I don't care about the planes, I care about the service. I'm almost positive I flew Vancouver-Seoul once on Asiana (so must have been operated by Air Canada) but didn't notice any marked difference from other Asiana flights.
Still, it seems like I'll need to contact Air Canada for questions about the reservation. Anyone know if there's a way to contact them OTHER than calling? |

Will be an AC flight (code-share).
The contact number for Asiana was on their website...
Reservations : 1588-8000 / 02-2669-8000 Asiana Club : 1588-8180 / 02-2669-8180
or here is a list of all their offices in Korea
http://www.flyasiana.com/english/
Just click on worldwide offices in the pull down menu.
If it is AC, same deal CALL THEM it is better because you can CONFIRM everything with an agent!
If it is AC, well expect AC-type service!
By the way, reserver well ahead! We fly Canada-Korea and vice-versa every year with our two kids and did so while they were toddlers.
On many airlines you can also request kids meals ahead of time.
Make sure your stroller is collapsable and meets the size requirements. If it does, you can usually roll it all the way up to the gate, check it there and get it back when you get out of the plane.
If your stroller is too big, check it as luggage or buy one of those smaller foldable ones!
Other advice on flying with a baby:
Bring 2-3 clothes changes in your carry on!
Bring more diapers than less (that is err on the side of caution)
Bring his or her favorite blanket.
Some toys and depending on his or her age, a toy that has never been seen or used can be a good idea as a suprise towards the tail end of the long flight.
Get there early!
Feed the baby on take off and landing to avoid ear pressure and pain.
Take advantage of pre-boarding for passengers with babies. What we did is send one parent ahead with the carry on while the other waited outside the plane with the baby. Then you go in because when you reach your seat, the other parent has prepped the space.
Just a final note and it can be important: if you or your spouse fly alone with the baby on one of the trips (To Canada or Back to Korea) have a letter ready for immigration that states that your spouse is aware and gives consent for you to travel with you. There are fill in the blank forms available on the consular affairs site for Canada.
Good luck! |

Trust me, Asiana has never flown passengers on their own planes into/out of Canada. The flight you were on was an Air Canada flight. Asiana does fly out of Seattle though. |

Thanks for the tips, PatrickGHBusan!
Like I said, I don't care whose plane it is, I care about the service. Is it possible that it would be an Air Canada plane but with Asiana service? I'm just kind of annoyed because I thought I was paying a premium for Asiana, not for crappy Air Canada. If I had known I might have just gone for the far cheaper Air China, if the service is going to be crappy anyway.
Anyway, whatever, I guess. It's just one flight. When we fly home for good in March it will definitely be Asiana, as we'll be going to Seattle. Would have done that this trip and taken the clipper to Victoria or something (my parents are on Vancouver Island), but flights were even more expensive. |

If it is a code-share the crew will be mixed but the plane will be AC along with "world class" AC service (read: crap).
Flying through the US can be cheaper but since you do the Seoul-Vancouver flight, its not worth it.
We fly out of Toronto and go to Busan so we nearly always go through the US because its cheaper and because we avoid Incheon delays or having to switch to Gimpo with 2 kids and luggage!
If you have anymore questions about flying with a kid, pm me! We have done this trip (both ways) about 10 times over the years!
Cheers |
