|
|
I had my phone interview last night and thought it went alright. Some of the questions were kind of intense. The interviewer said they would notify me via e-mail on monday or tuesday if i passed.
My question is whether or not they hire people on the spot at the end of the interview or do they always do it via e-mail? |

Koreans usually take the weekend off, so you can't tell in your situation. Even if they have an answer and it's to hire you, they will wait for the next working day (like delivering mail).
Usually, if they don't want me, I get quicker notice. The recruiter then tries to get me another school. If you don't get a call Monday, they might be trying to get the contract written up.
If it isn't an ASAP job, then it is also possible they are interviewing other teachers. The only thing you have is qualifications to hold you back. Good luck.
I suggest you still look at other job opportunities in the meantime. Sunday night is a good time to start, sometimes recruiters try to get an early start. Then, you might get calls in the morning. Schedule a Tuesday or Wednesday interview (hopefully after you find out about this current job). Check again Monday around 2pm for other job openings. This will give you a few more hours to contact recruiters and they can line up interviews as well.
Come Tuesday, you will either have this current job or you will have other possible jobs lined up. |

What intense questions did they ask you? Mine were relatively straightforward e.g. why Korea? How would you control a class? What is your teaching philosophy? |

how do you deal with conflict?
what stresses you out in life?
how would you deal with criticism from a korean co-teacher?
maybe intense was the wrong word, just unexpected. |

I think two of those questions are ok. Most job interviews I've had have asked about dealing with conflict and coworkers. I haven't been asked the stress one before though.
I passed the interview and I was pretty sure I had passed just from how the interview went. My interviewer talked through my visa documents and what to expect from a public school job like I had already passed. I found out officially through my recruiter a few days later. |

Mine talked about visa documents and a few things he wanted me to change on the app form. He said he would e-mail with all the docs I needed to send. Could be just that the person that interviewed isn't as super efficient as others. Who knows, its difficult to tell. From what I've heard, people interview had varied a fair bit. I've heard people having super short interviews and mine was over 45 minutes and the guy interviewing me went over the docs required, changes to my app form and what EPIK do with the application next. |

I was interviewed for around 45 minutes as well. Maybe jerry's interviewer had a date lined up or something. |

my interview lasted about 25 minutes. i think i handled the majority of the questions pretty well. he did ask about my thoughts regarding a TEFL course (i have not taken one but do have teaching experience). i'm not sure if that means they're looking for people with teaching certificates. |

It depends on how you define 'screwed'. You can always work at a hagwon (there's plenty of good ones, but you have to do your homework), apply directly to an education authority or work for an afterschool program. Look at the Korean job board of this website for a good look at what else is out there. |
