I am looking for recommendations for getting a Magic Straight Perm either in Seoul or Daejeon. I hoping to stay within the 80,000 won price range, if anyone can help me out I would appreciate it!
Thank you! |

Ive had it done twice at the Green Turtle. It turned out great! They just raised their prices so I dont know the cost. However - it KILLS your hair so both times I paid an additional 70 for the deep conditioning treatment. It was worth it. |

I recommend Aroma Hair/ Lion Hair in Apgujeong. I've had 1 Japanese Thermal treatment in the US, 1 magic straight in the US and 2 here in Korea and by far Aroma Hair was the best result I got from all 4 of my experiences. I am half black and half latina so I have very thick wavy, slightly hard to straighten hair.
First let me warn you against the first place that I got it done at. It's a chain salon called Lee Hoon Hair Color 20,000 (the korean name is 이훈헤어 칼라 20000). Basically, I got it done there because they advertised the price for magic straight as 20,000 won. But actually they charge you by the length of your hair, I believe it was short hair= 20,000, medium hair 30,000, and long hair 40,000. At the time my hair was only a little bit past my shoulders but I was told my base price would be 40,000 and then they told me my hair was so thick and hard to straighten so they had to charge me extra. Granted they did have to process my hair a second time because the first time didn't take well. However, in the end I walked out having paid 70,000 won with crappy results (there was very visible waves on one side of my head) and the effect lasted less than 2 months.
Now for the good salon: Aroma Hair/ Lion Hair. It's a huge salon close to the station with 3 floors. I believe the first floor is called Aroma Hair but the 2nd and 3rd floor are Lion Hair. I got mine done at Aroma Hair and it only costed about 30,000 won. My friend who is white and has fairly thin hair got the "Volume Magic" which gives you a bit more body and I believe she paid 37,000 won. We also got a few bucks discount for paying with cash. I got it done 3 months ago and the effect is only a little bit diminished (After I wash my hair I have to give my hair a quick once over with a straightener for less than 5 minutes and it looks as good as when I got it). By the way because of my hair texture I have to get my hair done more often so if you don't have thick, very wavy hair I would expect your results to last longer than mine.
But anyways 80,000 won is really steep for Magic straight when you can get very good results for less than 40,000. As i learned from Lee Hoon, sometimes paying more doesn't mean better results.
And~ you can make a reservation online (with the help of a Korean friend if you don't speak Korean)

I've never paid less than 180,000won for magic straight (including the deep conditioning treatment).
40,000won for magic straight? Did you end up looking like Mr.Clean? |

No, actually I look perfectly fine ^^ But paying 180,000 won in Korea is very steep Where exactly did you go? One of the upscale places in Apgujeong? I've never seen Magic straight advertised for more than 80,000 won anywhere and I wouldn't pay that much for it in Korea. Since, unlike in the US, most salons know how to do magic straight they have to stay competitive in terms of prices. Lower prices doesn't always mean bad results. I paid about $180 for a Magic straight in NYC chinatown a few years ago and the quality was really bad, The effect lasted only 2 months and I had horrible split ends everywhere. Really the price isn't the issue, it's the skill of the stylists and the quality of the chemicals they use. |

I go to average Korean salons, and it seems to be the going rate when I ask. My hair is not short, past my shoulders, and they do the conditioning treatment too for extra, which they ask whether I want done or not.
My magic straight lasts until it grows out, so I only need to do it about once a year. I don't mind paying that once a year; I've always been pleased with the result. |

**Just bumping this thread to see if anyone has any new recommendations**
I have very thick, wavy, fine hair that is naturally a bit dry. I'm naturally dark blonde but have some home colour in there now.
Just wondering if anyone with a similar hair-type has had success with magic straight lately?
And could you use colour or get highlights before/ after?
Any recommendations around Mok-dong?
(Though I'm willing to travel)
Thanks. |
