I live on the East Coast and will be coming into Seoul this weekend. I was hoping someone could give me exact directions to the foreign food markets in Itaewon and does anyone know if they sell the cheap maple syrup? I am looking for something like Aunt Jamima.
Thanks |

Maple Syrup here is crazy expensive, but there is a cheap alternative that you can find at any grocery store. I believe it is Ottogi brand, and is called "cake syrup" or something along those lines. It doesn't have a very maple-y flavor, but it more or less does what it needs to do;) |

Buy a big bottle for a couple of bucks and bring it with you. The Ottogi stuff is basically just corn syrup; it's not maple-flavored. This is the single food item that I couldn't find in Korea for an acceptable price and cared enough to bring from home. |

I think she meant she lived on the East Coast of Korea. |

Ah, that makes more sense, thank you. Sorry, sometimes I forget that people actually live on the east coast of Korea.
Well, I've heard Foreign Food Mart has syrup like that. I've never been there, but here are the directions (old, but I think it is still in the same place):

She doesn't want maple syrup, she wants "pancake syrup," which is the cheap stuff served at diners. That is harder to find than maple syrup, which is available at Homeplus, Costco, and iherb.com. |

Thank you everyone. I really prefer the cheap brand of pancake syrup over the the real maple syrup. No idea why....considering I am Canadian! Lol. I will check out the places you suggested. Whatever happened to the bigger grocery store in the Volvo building? I was surprised to see it was gone. |
