Hey all,
Making a lesson about jobs in the Korean military. I'm familiar with the American military, which has tons of jobs, but I don't want to make the assumption that the Korean military has things like bomb disposal, sub pilots, chefs, etc. Where can I get some info in english about Korean military jobs? |

wikipedia 'south korean military' would be a reasonable source of information.
However, most of the 'jobs' are not jobs because the ROKA doesn't employ them. They are draftees trained and 'tasked' to the role. |

You might want to rethink this idea.
In case you haven't noticed, the military in Korea isn't terribly popular with the general population, especially students. This is primarily because of the enforced conscription of males for at least 2 years of generally unpleasant and unwanted mandatory service. Unlike in Israel, say, the ROK military is not really perceived as the ultimate protector of the nation [even if it actually is] and there is little respect accorded to most of those who serve, compared to what you would see in the US for example.
If you teach MS or HS and ask your male students what job they LEAST want to have in the future a very large number will say 'soldier.' It's not seen as a desirable goal but as a burden. Female students will just check out completely.
Finally, many facts about the 'sexiest' elements/roles of the Korean military, such as special forces, intelligence, UAV deployments, forward-operating naval vessels, and indigenous weapons development such as the K1-88 or the KDX/KSS projects are pretty classified to prevent information benefiting the DPRK from leaking out.
To answer your question, though, of course Korea has sub 'drivers' and EOD units. They have just about every specialty that any modern service has; why wouldn't they? |
