If S1867 goes through with Sections 1031 & 1032 intact, American citizens within US borders will be subject to indefinite detention without charge nor representation, simply on executive say-so. The fascist takeover will be just about complete.

Battlefield US: Americans face arrest as war criminals under Army state law

29 November 2011

America is opening up a new warfront and its in your own backyard. Its in your neighbors house, its three states over and its on the other side of the Mississippi.

Thats what a new legislation could lead to and the consequences are dire and constitutionally damning.

The United States Senate is set to vote this week on a bill that would categorize the entire USA as a battlefield, allowing law enforcement duties to be dished out by the American Military, who in turn could detain any US citizen as a war criminal even coming into their own homes to issue arrests.

The National Defense Authorization Act regularly comes before Congress for changes and additions, but the latest provision, S. 1867, proves to be the most powerful one yet in raping constitutional freedoms from Americans. Move over, Patriot Act. Should S. 1867 pass, lawmakers could conjure the text to keep even regular citizens detained indefinitely by their own military.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a supporter of the bill, has explicitly stated that the passing of S. 1867 would basically say in law for the first time that the homeland is part of the battlefield and could lead to the detention of citizens without charge or trial, writes Chris Anders of the American Civil Liberties Unions Washington office...

This is really effin' scary. Call your senators today and tell them you do not want this.

Take action:

Call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask for your senators' and/or representative's office. Remember that telephone calls are usually taken by a staff member, not the member of Congress. Ask to speak with the aide who handles the issue about which you wish to comment.

After identifying yourself, tell the aide you would like to leave a brief message, such as: "Please tell Senator/Representative (Name) that I oppose S.1867, especially Sections 1031 & 1032."

93-7?!? Shocked We're effed!

Senate Approves $662B Defense Bill

(WASHINGTON) Ignoring a presidential veto threat, the Democratic-controlled Senate on Thursday overwhelmingly approved a massive, $662 billion defense bill that would require the military to hold suspected terrorists linked to al-Qaida or its affiliates, even those captured on U.S. soil.

The vote was 93-7 for the bill authorizing money for military personnel, weapons systems, national security programs in the Energy Department, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in the fiscal year that began Oct. 1...

Actually, it's sold down the river.

But, yes, we are effed.

On to the House next.

Don't hold your breath.

So, when you connect the dots, properly understood, what happened this week is the first battle in a civil war; a civil war in which, for now, only one side is choosing violence. It is a battle in which members of Congress, with the collusion of the American president, sent violent, organized suppression against the people they are supposed to represent. Occupy has touched the third rail: personal congressional profits streams. Even though they are, as yet, unaware of what the implications of their movement are, those threatened by the stirrings of their dreams of reform are not.

While I see the logic behind it- In the age of fast-moving terrorism, the first responders to a threat on American soil might be the military and would need the legal capacity to act in order to save lives and so on and so on...and while I don't think this is suddenly going to lead to the Washington Gestapo materializing out of the mists and sudden;y ordering us around at gunpoint...I do think that this is just...improper. This nation was founded on a distrust of military law enforcement and large standing armies. Declaring all of America a battleground is just ludicrous.

Except she envisioned a tyranny of the masses, so it's not really the same at all.

If this passes and God forbid any negative consequences of such legislation, the blame, ultimately, are all Americans collectively.

You get the government you deserve. Too many of 'us' as a people who are ignorant, apathetic or fooled.

The real threat to national security is the mismanagement of our finances, economy, excessive military campaigns, and government itself; not some gun men though there is fighting around the southern border. The US is headed on a scary path Germany went down many decades ago. It was also announced yesterday that China is going to be put up to the task of upgrading the infrastructure and managing the country due to our enormous national debt and lack of investing on American soil. The biggest real threat to national security is not the American people, but the leadership who sold us out to China, India, and the world through corporate outsourcing of the jobs. To send our jobs away, stifle domestic growth down to a negative level, and then criminalize us for being upset is just criminal on their part.

Agreed but we're talking about one and the same with regards to this thread. The politicians have been bought and sold by special interests as well. They've taken money from all sources.

Ultimately as I stated in my previous post, the fault lies collectively with all of us. Not enough of us will make a difference. We're fragmented and tied down in party politics. I really don't see any resolution. Two significant things happened in the first decade of this century. 911 and a financial meltdown and both times the government used both events to screw us over (Patriots Act, TSA, Iraqi war, bailouts for banks, etc.). These were significant events. So, it seems when ever we experience any event of national consequence it can be safely assumed our own government that WE collectivly has elected will screw us over.

We got the government we deserve as a people.
