My contract with a school finishes next month, and the school is asking me to renew.
I'm curious about how effective requests before renewals are.
If a school asks you to renew, then is it common to have some "demands" before renewing (i.e. provide a work computer that is newer than 6 years old, replace dirty apartment wallpaper for free and check/eliminate mold that may exist behind the wallpaper)?
Anyone ever "demand" some things before going through with a renewal? If so, then what "demands" did you make? |

There is a difference between demanding something and asking for something firmly AND politely.....
Demanding something never (generally) works out well...... |

What you can get will depend on how much they like you, how hard you are to replace and how nicely you ask.
Time to dig out your negotiating skills. None of your requests are out of line or very expensive so should be no problem.

Is it common to have wallpaper/mold removed and new wallpaper put back on the walls in Korea? |

When I re-signed with my current school, I had three requests:
- a salary increase to match the position I was turning down, a bigger raise than they wanted to give
- I would choose my own apartment that was an equal or lesser price than what I had at the time (an old two-bedroom)
- I wouldn't have to teach any grade 1 or 2 classes at our elementary school |

Not common but not unheard of either and not unreasonable.
