There was a sale on at Lotte department store last weekend, don't know if it's still going. Some good bargains, though they grossly over exaggerated the prices they apparantly had the discounted bottles on before.

I'm in Incheon, but I go to the wine shop at Shinsegae. Sometimes they have some nice sales going. I found some nice Bordeaux at half price for 15k. It wasn't the most spectacular bottle I've ever had, but it's worth 30k (we've gotten it since then) and a hell of a good buy for 15k.

My local LotteMart had a big sale a few weeks ago and I loaded up then. It might still be going on...wine is seriously overpriced in this country so take what you can get ASAP.

High Street Market in Itaewon (near IP Boutique Hotel) has a pretty good wine selection provided by Pieroth Wines. There are some good buys (W8,900) in the "damaged labels" barrels. Just a nick in the label, though the wine is intact, but they can't sell it for full price so it goes on discount.

The affordable wine in the supermarkets can be seriously bad.......avoid.

Better to develop a relationship with the guy in your local wine and whiskey shop. Be a regular customer and he'll take care of you. My local guy often throws me two 12-15,000won bottles for 20,000......because he doesn't get many customers and likes to practice his English on me.

But totally worth the trip. Check out their website: www.winedc.co.kr. They sell to the bars and restaurants, and you can pretty much buy it for the same price. It's just kind of a hike.

Emart has the best selection of wines. 15k will get you a decent bottle.

I like to go to Home Plus for their Tesco label wine. The screw tops won't wow the socks off anyone, but some of the wines are quite potable.

I don't have a clue about wines but there is a resturant in Daegu called Napoli. The owner is Italian/chef and has been here for about 11 years. He imports all of his wines from Italy. He is not cheap but I've heard many people say they are good.

Actually, I prefer the options at costco. I think you get better quality/tasting wines for the same price at costco. I guess I am willing to pay higher prices and drink wines I prefer-I'm so used to overpriced wine in Asia, it becomes a matter of getting the best you can for the price.

Hubby and I have actually planned a wine tour next time we are home. I'm so excited!

However, Emart does have a few decent wines for decent prices, as well.
