How is the area? Nightlife, etc?
Any other recommendations for cheap areas?
I'm looking to maximize my living space, have about 50K for a deposit and looking to spend up to 700 a month.
I'm tired of paying 700 for a small one room just because its in a trendy area (sinchon, hongdae, etc...)
thanks |

It's a fairly busy nightlife area, but very Korean in style. If you like Korean food, hofs, and booking clubs you'll like it. If you're looking for foreign food, western bars, and Hongdae-style clubs you will be disappointed.
Housing can be cheaper than elsewhere in Seoul, but depends on what exactly you're looking for. |

Seoul overall isn't the best for bargain housing, even if it's not in a posh area. I can also recommend the Yaksu subway station area since many music studios are opening there due to the cheaper rent.
If you do move to the Guro area, I recommend Grana at Novotel Doksan. It's just four stops from the subway station to the hotel by bus (stop at Geumcheon Post Office or Geumcheon U-chae-guk). Grana is a bar/restaurant with a Philippine cover band with a weekday special of light buffet and unlimited draft beer, house wine and certain cocktails from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The price is 22,000 won for men and 16,500 won for women inclusive of tax. The band starts playing around 8 p.m. |

I don't mind not having anything Western nearby. Just tired of one-rooms |

R122925 couldn't have said it much better. The area really caters to the office worker dinner and drinking culture. There's not much of anything here for western people. The housing is cheaper, there's an ok coffee shop/brunch place near the station, and Emart is 5 minute walk from the station, but otherwise I don't have much to say on the positive side.
Maybe it would be more pleasant if you can avoid riding line 2 at peak times. |
