1997 Honda CB400SF
My Honda NC31 is for sale.
Asking 2,000,000
Great little bike and Ive taken good care of her. 76,744 km (40,000 are mine). As far as I can tell, these are honest KM and the clocks have never been rolled back (which is kind of a custom in Korea).
I use quality parts only:
EK 525srx High-Value X Ring Motorcycle Chain replaced Fall 2010, 2,000 km on it. It is an X-ring chain rather than O-ring, so it will last longer. Made in Japan.
Yuasa YTX9-BS battery made by Yuasas Taiwanese partner (so a bit cheaper than made in Japan versions) replaced last Fall 2010, my last Yuasa lasted me nearly 5 years
Pirelli Sport Demon H rated bias tires, replaced Summer 2010, about 3,000 km on them (still have my chicken stripssmall ones, but chicken strips none the less), much better than the Shinko tires that usually end up on older CB400s, Potentially these tires can last about 10,000 km.
New valves this year (Honda parts) so she runs really nice. Old valves were surprisingly clean and it seems I only needed them adjustedmy loss your gain.
New brake pads last yearbut I didnt go for the Brembo pads this time (as I usually have) and have regretted it. When the pads are due to be changed I suggest going back to the Brembo pads. The pads I have were supposed to be for a CBR600RR, but apparently they dont play well with the little CB. They work fine, but are noisy.
I was hit by a taxi last winter so the bike has new paint and body panels all round, new bar ends, new tank, new fork tubes (the bike shop wanted to bend the old ones back in shape but I insisted on new tubes to make sure things were done right), new head set bearings, new front rim and new fork seals. Unfortunately there are still some scratches on the muffler.
Other things:
Showa shocks: unlike many older CB400s which have cheap after market replacements. Still in great condition and handle well.
Yoshimura muffler so shes got a nice sound
Brembo calipers up front instead of the usual Nissin calipers
Blue lights under the tail so you can be seen more easily at night
I also use nothing but synthetic oil (currently using Valvoline New Turbo 4T full synthetic a great deal in Korea). In the past I changed oil every1,000 km, but recently started changing oil every 4,000 (which is what the manual calls for). Needless to say the engine is very clean, oil comes out clean and she looked great when I had a compression test done on it a few years back. I also change brake fluid and rad fluid when needed. I do suggest changing it again though in the near future if you buy it. Shes about due. I also change the spark plugs every year. Just replaced them and they wont need to be done until next winter.
It also has a luggage rack (Honda part, cost 100,000 won) and engine guards. The luggage rack has been great for touring Korea and makes it real easy to strap a pack onto the bike. It can be removed.

So this is your motorcycle. I always wondered what it looked like.
For anyone looking, this is a great deal. 2 mil. might seem a little high if you're just comparing random prices on passo, but this is definitely a well cared for machine. If I didn't already have a V-tec model, I would be all over this.
So, only one question, v88. Why are you selling? |

Thanks for that.
As for why I'm selling? I'm just commuting these days and don't have time to get out much (can't slap my little one's car seat on the back)...and my wife is being nutty about saving money. So I figure I should get a smaller bike for a while. A bit of a shame, the bike is all set to ride for the next year or so. |
