IT could be done. But be prepared. Likely not but immigration/border may want proof of ability to move on or support yourself. Once again likely not.
Ex-school might get mean. Does your school know where your boyfriend lives or even his school? If so, if you do a runner they might come after you.
Boyfriend issues. Make sure relationship is stable. Nothing like being stuck in a country and heart broken with no place to stay.
Boyfriend school could get pissy about your staying with him for moral reasons to money issues. They pay for apartment they have issue with a non worker staying a long time there.
Next off, loss of freedoms. Without your ARC card, you will lose the ability to transfer money home, get a handphone, set up utils. An ARC can be lived without. Just some things become harder. |

First tourist visa no problems.
However if you come in for a second in succession, then the questions start.
You may even be asked for proof that you are not teaching illegally- (I was).
Third tourist visa in succession? No chance. |

You gave proof you were not teaching illegally? How did you do that? You had to prove you brought savings from your home country? Upon request you provided bank statements as evidence? I don't understand. |

Proof of funds and residence that was not dependent on (your) employment.
A savings account with money in it and your boyfriend's address will suffice for a year or two.

thanks all. i think this can be done.
i will be able to show immigration another plane ticket out of korea and my bank statement from back home.
i should have mentioned that i already live with my boyfriend (my school gives me a housing allowance) and his school is aware and fine with it. i don't think my school knows where my boyfriend lives or works, but i don't think they would "come after me", and what would they do anyway?? we've been together for 7+ years, so it's pretty stable. without income i won't be transferring any money home, but i could always have my boyfriend do that for me. (i don't plan on working, i will be a full-time online graduate student.) all the utilities are in his name. i already have a phone and it wasn't set up using my ARC.
i would need two tourist visas i guess. (leave first in january to cancel my ARC and then leave again 90 days later before leaving for good in early june.) so it sounds like the only issue might be getting the second tourist visa? |

Non issue.
You have a legitimate reason to be here.
You are not working. You have a means of support and residence.
You will have an exit ticket (the airline will be the ones to worry about it; not immigration).
You are good to go.

OK let me elaborate here.
I was questioned quite fully at the airport when arriving on my 2nd tourist visa. But I ran into bigger problems when I got a job towards the end of my 2nd tourist visa.
I applied for an E2. Immi granted it on condition I could prove that I had not been teaching illegally over the previous 5 months in country. I was asked to write a full account, with evidence, of what i'd been doing.
Fortunately i keep a blog with photos. So it was very easy to show that I had in fact been travelling around the country doing various things other than teaching. I also had numbers of people who could verify that I was not teaching illegally.
Maybe it was down to the individual officer, but I was also told that I would not be allowed in for a 3rd tourist visa. Which seems absurd when you consider that it was "Visit Korea Year". |
