Is it possible to stay in Korea past your E2 work visa just to travel and what not. Is it possible to go to immigration and get a visitors permit without leaving the country? I would like to stay 2 months extra but would I need to leave the country and come back first? Thanks! |

On completion of your E2 you have 2 choices:
1) go to immigration with an outward bound ticket. They will extend your ARC until the date of the ticket (up to a maximum of 30 days). This CANNOT be extended again and is free.
2) Leave Korea before your ARC expires and return. Depending on your country of passport you will get from 30-180 days on a visa free entry stamp.
DO NOT OVERSTAY YOUR ARC. The consequences and fines are NOT worth it.
Unless you are from S.Africa a simple ferry ride to Japan and back will suffice. Another option would be a quick hop down to the Philippines and back on Cebu Pacific and unless you do it at a peak travel time it will cost less than 300k.

I may be wrong, but i think there is a new visa; the D-10 (?). It is a "looking fo work" visa. you can get one for 6 months and extend it once. |

You need to have worked for a FORTUNE 500 company or gone to one of the Times Top 200 ranked Universities in graduate school. Yeeup, that's what they base their immigration policy on. |

Do I need to go to Immigration for the extended 30 days, I was under the impression the 30 days was a given allowance since it is unrealistic to expect teachers to leave on the same day their contract finishes. Especially if you work in a Hagwon and finsih late. I thought the 30 days was to give us time to leave?

The 30 days is not just assumed. Either your ARC card was originally given an extra month than your contract stipulated or you need to apply for the 30 day extension. You can do it at immigration or online. |

to be clear:
Your contract and/or employer has NOTHING to do with your ARC or departure date.
You MUST either leave or extend by the end date of your ARC.
If you need additional time beyond the end of your ARC you MUST get an extension.
If your ARC expiry date is later than your contract completion date then you're in luck, you can leave or transfer to a new job.

Hi,
thanks for the info. I have just phoned immigration, they confirmed what you said. I was told completly different. I have to apply for my extension.
-For anyone reading this:
-it is free of charge.
-To do online it has to be done 3 business days before expiration otherwise it should be done in an immigration office.
-If it expires on a weekend or Public holiday then the date extends by one business day. |

On the subject...
ttompatz...If my ARC card was given an extra 30 days by immigration(when my contract was submitted to them), have they used my 30 day extension or can I apply for another online for a total of 60 days? |

If your ARC was granted for 13 months (or longer than your contract) it is all working time (to allow you to complete your contract and file the paperwork for a new contract/transfer if wanted.
In ADDITION you can still apply for the 30 day NON-WORKING extension if you plan to not work and leave.

My plane ticket is for the 16th of August and my ARC expires on the 17th of August. However, my visa expires on the 17th of July. Am I supposed to do anything or can I just let it go? I'm on an F-4 by the way. |

Your visa is meaningless at this point in time. It is the date on your ARC that is important.
As long as your plane ticket is before your ARC expiry you are fine.
