|
|
Recently having issues with my 360--which irritates me to no end seeing as I've only put in about 40 hours total playtime into the thing.
I keep getting "unreadable disc" errors with discs that are absolutely flawless. Several hours of Googling have led me to the almost nothing conclusive.
Anyone have experience with this? Best case scenario I'm hoping for is that my lens is grimey and I need to get it cleaned.
The thing I'm worried about is that I got it modded a few months back and they may have swapped out my until then unused disc drive and spoofed in another to get around the 0225's protection.
Thanks. |

is your box horizontal or vertical? the latter is better for the disk tray/ disks, as well as heat distribution. upon purchase of the slim, i had it vertically and found many disks were rather noisy. after putting it horizontally, haven't had a problem nor heard a whisper.
...you should also install all games you play. |

A few questions...
Does it happen all the time with all discs? Does it happen with only certain games and not others? Or is it random?
Does it happen with original discs? with burned copies? or both?
Have you connected to Xbox live recently? |

@ alder:
It's horizontal--although it ultimately shouldn't matter to the consumer. I mean what you're saying is true, and I totally agree with you, I'm just annoyed with MS' shoddy manufacturing making this an issue at all.
@r122925
I don't have any originals with me here in Korea. I've tested a number of discs which previously worked (I was able to install them)--and now magically are unreadable.
My box has never been online.
I'm guessing I'm going to have to take it to Yongsan... hopefully my guy doesn't try to rip me off. |

Who is your guy if you don't mind me asking? I've been thinking about picking up a modded slim while I'm in Seoul next week. Any idea what the prices are or where in Yongsan to find them? I remember a tunnel looking place that was full of games guys last time I was there.
Girlfriend wants a Wii, too. |

OP are you sure you don't even connect to the net at all? MS has been silently updating the DAE file and making all new games come out as unreadable. You don't even have to go on live, just be connected for updates and the like. You will have to flash the new c4eva LT+3.0 coming our soon. |

Yeah, don't even have a LIVE account. My box hasn't even been close to an ethernet cable and I haven't even touched any of the internet settings.
I'm sure something's up with the disc drive. It'll read... occasionally. I have to keep ejecting and re-inserting the disc. Or sometimes I push the tray in and it works for whatever reason.
After doing some more research, it might be that my laser isn't aligned properly, or it's shifting due to the crappy glue used in its production, or might be just plain dirty like I said earlier.
And yeah, was waiting on 3.0 to play all the new XGD3 games... but now I gotta deal with this disc drive crap, too. Might as well have just bought a gaming desktop.... |

In the video game alley (or the tunnel looking place you're talking about), he's the 3rd guy down. He speaks English pretty well. No idea how much a modded slim would cost--I bought my box in the States, sorry. Keep in mind that some games won't play due to region locking if you buy a Korean console.
For the Wii, I'd recommend buying one and softmodding it yourself. There are very basic tutorials and even one-click softmod apps out now. I'd recommend USB Loader (program you install on the Wii to navigate and access games you have on an external HDD) and a Seagate Freeagent external to load your games from.
The program they use at Yongsan is a lot uglier, less robust/functional, and they give you crappy quality HDDs. |
