EIU Marks North Korea as Democratic Disaster

North Korea is once again the least democratic nation on earth, according to the newly-released 'Democracy Index 2011', produced by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
In the 4th annual edition of the index, North Korea comes 167th out of 167 independent states and territories surveyed, with a score of 1.08/10.
North Korea is an absolute basket case in terms of civil liberties and political pluralism, the report notes. However, it does give North Korea more credit than its nearby neighbors in the list, Chad, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Myanmar and Equatorial Guinea, for the functioning nature of its government. |
