*waves*

I'm sure I'll be using this forum a lot during my stay, so thought I'd best introduce myself.

I'm teaching in Incheon, in a Hagwon. As Hagwon's go I think I've landed a pretty good one. The managers and other teachers are really nice and they're very helpful and patient with me... i'm still learning the way they do things.

Even though they have decided my holiday (vacation) time already, they've planned the around the national holidays, which means i get 4-5 day weekends and such. The students are a mixed bag, some are lovely and amazing, whilst others make me want to rip my skin off and sit in a bath of vinegar.

I'm currently living in Bupyeong, which is a pretty cool area... even if it does smell a bit. At the end of September I'm going to be moved closer to the school, in Cheongna (Seo-Gu). It's sort of out in the sticks, but its a really nice, posh area (that's still being built) but its got plenty of nice bars and restaurants - and its close to Geomam Station.

Anyway, enough of my self-indulgence. I'm happy to finally get on this board, and i'm sure to have many questions in the future.

Very Happy

Not really. The North end is a little scummy, but the south end is quite cool. A fairly good night life and shopping area.

I believe its one of the better areas of Incheon.

it's nice to have long weekends, sure, but you will also want a real vacation when the time comes.

this could be a red flag. it's ok to get along but don't let your guard down about your own life and what you want, ok?

Bupyeong is fine. as good as any other place in the ROK. Better than a lot.
Plus it has a decent Indian restaurant called First Nepal (may have changed names) right by the station.

Cheongna is a work in progress. My in-laws live there. It wants to be Song Do, but hasn't grown up yet.

Well I'm hardly young, in age, but this is my first time teaching abroad. The good thing is that its only a one year contract, if I'm not fully enjoying it by the 6 month mark I would still finish off the year.

I guess its hard to convince some people about how good a Hagwon can be. I've worked many a crappy job in my lifetime and had to deal with some horrible bosses. So i'm pretty sure i'll be able to handle what's ahead, and honestly, it seems like a good one:

You should really try to get some of those holidays lumped together to get a whole week (9 days with both weekends) to get out of the country. Korea is cool at first but China and Japan have more to offer if you're interested in siteseeing

I don't know. I suppose if you only plan to stay a year it doesn't matter so much.

Best wishes, sincerely.

Beware, Daves is infested with chronic complainers, but you seem to have a sound attitude & your gig sounds workable. Enjoy your students & your discovery of living in Korea. Chances are you'll have a great time & maybe even stick around, like many others before you.

Theres much here to appreciate.

Hey, MrRawkyRoo, how long have you got left? 350 days and a wake up?
Xin loi, my boy. I can't even remember when I was 350 man! You gotta, like, count backwards.
