The commercial volume levels are insane. In the case of local area commercials the audio is often so loud the commercials crackle with electronic noises due to being overdriven. Let's hope Korea follows this idea:

The volume isn't louder, only you can change that. It's to do with compression. Here's an article that will help to explain.

Whether or not it's from volume or compression, it's annoying as hell.

Some TV's have smart volume control. Maybe you need to upgrade your TV set.

It is more than just compressed. I know all about that. The average person on here, however, does not. It is also overdriven, in many cases.

If your tv volume is to ten, there's no way a commercial would be able to override that. It will still be 10. Your commercials aren't louder, they just seem louder because the advertising agencies use audio tricks like compression and noise gates and limiters to trick your ear into thinking it's louder.

Yeah commercials are loud and annoying. And what's with 20 minutes of commercials in the middle of a movie. I was watching the 10pm movie on OCN and it cut to commercial at 11:00 and didn't resume the movie until 11:20..WTH!

"The peak levels of commercials dont exceed the peak levels of programming, admits Spencer Critchley, a communications consultant in California. But the experience is similar to having a flashbulb go off every now and then versus a spotlight shining in your eyes all the time. In other words, an entire commercial can be broadcast at the same level as an extra-loud (but fleeting) explosion on 24."

They don't seem louder. They ARE louder.

Mute!

More bothersome is why is CNN so quiet vs. the other channels?

You know Korea; clap your hands loudly and shout and they will come....

The damned abc shoemarts when they have sales.... yick....

Standing right behind me, skin to skin clapping their hands and shouting 'ha ha ha ha'

The tv comercials - it's the same logic.

Be louder than the other comercials and they will buy. Thus every comerical has to be loud as everyone else...

The political rallies, don't get me started...

I've never lived in the US.

I livein Korea, so I'm comlaining aboutthe noise levels in Korea not the US or Bolivia or Bostwana. Knock yourself out trying to find where I once said other countries did or didn't have loud comercials.

They do here and I know the mentality behind it and it sucks. If I find the same in timbuktu, I'll be sure to mention it on a forum there.

Myth really needs to give you more schooling and virtual posting experience before you are allowed to post in a realtime environment.

And you realise the article you posted points out that they just made a law against excessively loud commercials? Yes, other countries have loud commercials, and it's quite annoying. I don't like it in Canada, and wish they would pass a law similar to the US one. Here, I find the commercials ever louder than Canada, but that could be because the ones here rely on high pitched voices and cute crap, so they seem louder.

Loud commericals is a common practice in other countries as well. Do they also have ABC shoemart salesmen that clap loudly?

I think maybe you are trying to connect 2 things that have no relationship to each other. Loud commercials are used the world over and is NOT a cultural thing.

Hey, here's a quick experiment. If your TV is set to 10, is everything that you hear on a given program the same volume? No? Then your reasoning sucks and is obviously wrong.
