I'm contemplating shipping some golf clubs and a sleeping bag.
I'm in no rush to receive either. So even if the items were shipped by sea and took a month to arrive, I'd be contented.
What is the cheapest, dependable means you know for shipping relatively large items (like a bag of golf clubs)?
Any help is very much appreciated!
CJ GLS? DHL?
I've already checked with UPS, and their fees are obscenely high (twice the value of what I want to ship) |

There is NO CHEAP SHIPPING FROM THE STATES TO KOREA unless you are planning to fill a container.
Sleeping bag = buy it here. NO sleeping bag is worth the cost of shipping.
Golf clubs = bring with you as an extra piece of oversize luggage. It will cost about as much as your clubs but less than shipping.
If you are an avid golfer do be aware that you won't be on the links in Korea (about 200k won for 9 holes AND you need connections to get into most clubs.)
Screen golf is about all you will get (at an affordable price) here (but heading to Clark in the Philippines for your holidays is a great golf get-a-way).

Agreed. My understanding is there is no longer any surface shipping between the U.S. and Korea unless, as ttompatz said, you get an entire container. Everything else is shipped by air now. Golf clubs in particular would be expensive.
The only other option I know of is if you know someone in the military based here, and can ship it to them. And this only applies to certain items. |

www.shipnex.com
I used it. It was really cheap. It was really fast to (6 days).
I hear what they do is buy unused space on Fedex/UPS planes/cargo ships. Then they sell that space at a huge discount.
The problem I have heard (but not experienced) is if one of your packages gets lost. They blame it on Fedex/UPS and then Fedex/UPS blames it on Shipnex and you get stuck in this blame game.
I tried it. I liked it. I saved a ton of money and I'll use them again in the future. They also came to my house in the US and picked everything up! |

I would need my golf clubs sent as they're custom made (as I'm tall, not rich) and I certainly couldn't afford to get new custom clubs made here just to play screen golf!
Would clubs really be that expensive? I guess 14 of them are a bit weighty, but without the bag and extras it's not too much.
Shipnex quoted me $230.68 or $161.28 (economy) for 40 pounds.
USPS quoted me $249.05 ($229.13 if paid online) for 40 pounds, so I'm not sure of the savings unless you select the "economy" from Shipnex. I think I'd for for the USPS for more safety and insurance (and speed). |

Last week I got my sleeping bag. Shipping cost was 31 USD. That's about 1/5 the cost of buying a new one in Korea. So you're wrong on that one.

In my area, there are not many golf courses, but there are many (actual) driving ranges. I don't plan to, but if I ever come to Korea again, I would my bring pool cue and some golf clubs. |

What about customs and duties. I suspect golf clubs would be one of those items that will be held and taxed.
Please be careful of the 150,000 won customs limit. |
