Hi!
I'm a little ignorant of the actual process to obtain an E-2 visa within Korea so I came here to ask for help.
Right now my FBI background check expires on January 9 (It's been almost 6 months since the issue date). I need to get a job before then and then get an E-2 visa. My question is, when do I need to leave the country? Can I go to Japan on January 7th/8th and file for a visa? Or do I file for it in Korea and then leave the country?
Any help would be appreciated! |

Are you currently in Korea on a tourist visa? Go to immigration and see if you can give them your CBC before it expires and have them keep it on file for you. I'm not sure if this is possible on a tourist visa but it's worth a try. |

I'm currently in Korea on a student visa. What's the cheapest way to get out of the country and then back in? A flight to somewhere or a ferry from Busan to Japan? |

To switch to an E2 the ONLY thing that matters is that it is 6 months or less when it lands on the desk at Kimmi for the visa confirmation number application.
This also means you need a job (with signed contract) and an application with all attendant documents. This MUST occur before your documents expire.
You then have 90 days AFTER that to do your visa run to get your E2 (the visa confirmation number has a shelf life of 90 days before it expires and you have to begin again).
You then have an additional 90 days after you get the visa to actually enter Korea and activate the E2 (the visa has a shelf life of 90 days to enter or lose it).
You then have an additional 90 days to get your medical and apply for your ARC.
