SO I will be leaving Korea in a month or so and plan to come back and work for another year or so. I was thinking about getting a TEFL but had a few questions:

Is it possible to earn it while in the states or is it something I have to be overseas to do? I know there are online ones but are they worthless when it comes to getting jobs?

If I have to be overseas to do it can I do it while teaching, perhaps in my off hours?

To give a frame of reference I was looking at jobs in China and Burma for example and most listings say they require a TEFL. Would my teaching experience in Korea essentially equal a TEFL?

Is it worth it? I was thinking of teaching for only another five years or so, is the increase in pay worth it? Do most jobs even give you more money if you are certified?

Normally I would post this in the international job board but since I am teaching in Korea for a while longer I figured I would post it here. Also, I guess I need to register there as my login isn't working?

Numbers added for clarity.

1) yes, you can get one in the states. They range from garbage courses (Oxford Seminars) to top of the line (CELTA).

2) You can do it full time for 30 days or part time over a much longer stretch.

3) No.

4) Worth is a subjective term. In terms if financial recovery probably not by way of an increased salary. Your salary won't go up because of it but getting hired as opposed to staying unemployed is very real.

5) Yes, separate registration is required.
