|
|
My employer started deducting pension from my pay when I started working in November, but when I called the Pension office today they said my hagwon hadn't deposited it.
I checked with my hagwon today and the owner said she wasn't going to make a deposit for 2 (two) more months.
Procedure - my understanding is that pension deductions are deposited shortly after being deducted from my pay.
Trust issue - when I signed my current contract the owner didn't want to include a pension clause because she said it didn't apply. I insisted because that's the rule for U.S. citizens.
Also, note: I worked at a previous hagwon the owner was a partner in and found out that after deducting pension from my pay while I was working there, that it had never been reported to the Pension Office. They offerred to add it to my final pay which I accepted because I was getting ready to leave the country (the reason I was given at that time was that it was a clerical error).
Solution: If the owner refuses to deduct pension in a timely manner, should I visit the Pension Office? |

They didn't tell you to do this when you called them? Did you tell them you had a contract?
Show them the contract, don't talk to the hagwon, hassle the pension office to collect on it. |

this happened to me. i was enrolled in pension with the office but i didn't get it until two weeks ago and i left korea in june.
if you're enrolled with them the school has to pay up eventually unless they go out of business in which case you would get charged if you came back to korea. they probably won't go out of business if they're a big, rich hagwon like mine was so if that's the case don't worry about it. they'll pay it eventually as long as you're enrolled with the office.
however - even though you will get it eventually, you don't want to wait 6 months worrying whether you're going to get it or not. so see if you can take care of it while you're there by talking to people at NPS and your hagwon. give them the whole "i am worried about my taxes in america" thing. |

make sure you keep all your pay stubs and bank transaction records because you may need them as proof if your school never pays. |
