James Franco Got NYU Professor Fired, Lawsuit Alleges
Quote: |
Santana gave Franco a D in Directing the Actor II because the Hollywood star only attended two of the 14 classes.
Santana was later fired, and he thinks NYU was simply pandering to the actor/director/student/poet.
"The school has bent over backwards to create a Franco-friendly environment, thats for sure," Santana told the New York Post. "The university has done everything in its power to curry favor with James Franco."
. . .
So what else supports his claims of a shady Franco-NYU relationship?
Franco hired Jay Anania, another one of his professors, to write and direct William Vincent, which starred Franco.
Moreover, John Tintori, the chairman of the graduate film department at NYUs Tisch School of the Arts also made a cameo in a film financed by Franco.
Now the casual link between Santanas firing and this cozy Franco-NYU connection has to be dealt with in court. |

I never liked that guy. He's always come across as snobby and condescending. Plus, his acting was only tolerable. Here's another guy who got his acting career (and probably everything else in life) handed to him because he has a pretty face and good hair.
Besides, who does he think he's impressing getting all these PhDs from school across the country? Most people spend years, even a decade or more, pursuing a real PhD. He thinks just because he can pay for it, show up to a fraction of the classes, and they just hand him a doctorate that real academics applaud him for it? Piss off. It's just as bad as when they hand out honorary degrees to commencement speakers and pass kids for every class because daddy was rich and made a donation.
NYU should be ashamed of itself. It's doing everything it can to be considered on par with the Ivy League. Little do they know they'd probably earn more respect from flunking a rich and public figure that thought he could just take advantage of them. |

Is there actually a link between what happened to the prof and Franco?
I've never seen a Franco movie, as far as I know.
So far, the story reads like a conspiracy theory. 'I' got fired. Who can I blame it on?
I think I'd be more sympathetic with the prof if there were testimonials from students saying he didn't suck. |

Its just the initial complaint. He doesn't need to construct his entire case yet. Discovery will reveal, or not reveal, some basis for the allegations.
Anyway, its not far-fetched that DeFranco would receive special treatment, and its more likely than DeFranco being able to both make movies and study full-time. |

Having been a rock star of the neighborhood a time or two myself, without trying, I see no reason to condemn Franco without some indication of his effort to seek special treatment. |
