Off on my travels soon and I need a new backpack. I'm thinking of getting something in the 70l range and would love to hear what others have puchased and enjoyed (or regretted). I'm gonna have to buy it here in Korea although I really should have bought one during my last trip home.

I have my eye on one in K2, but it's around 400,000 won.

K2 stuff is notoriously overpriced.

If you're spending good money, then get one from a specialist backpack company.

I bought a Deuter at a shop right outside Namdaemun on the hiking shop street. It's smaller than 70l but I got it for W120,000. (This was a few years ago, but still, it seemed like a reasonable price.) It has lasted me through several seasons of rough backpacking and is in near-perfect condition. So, I recommend the brand.

At the same time, all I did was try on a bunch until I found one that fit properly. After that, my rule was that I should be able to run (i.e. catch a train, escape a mugger) whilst the backpack is full and I have a smaller pack in tow.

Yes. Everything in the shop seemed a tad over-the-top in terms of price.

Recommend some brands?

I live near Busan so anything in Seoul isn't possible, unless I buy mail order.

Thanks!

I would hit the net and browse outdoor/hiking websites and see which backpacks get good reviews from backpack geeks.

The best backpacks I've ever owned are Gregory packs. I've had the Gregory Baltoro 70 for years and love it

www.gregorypacks.com

As with anything in Korea, its a ripoff to buy here at around 550,000W (bought mine for $250 in the States)

You can buy mine. An REI 65L flash backpack. It is about 6 months old. It is an awesome and light pack. I'll sell it to you for 100 bucks.

If you aren't interested, then go to the stores that sell bags from the west. arcteryx, gregory, REI, osprey. Try them on. BUT. BRING THE GEAR YOU WILL USE ON YOUR TRIP TO PUT IN IT WHILE TRYING IT ON. All bags feel great when they are empty. Try them on and then buy it online form America or Canada pr wherever. Have your folks send it over.

Here is a great store if you choose not to listen to me.

Theres also okoutdoors.com.

Happy hunting.

I wish I had not left that gregory pack on the subway, gone like the wind, some adjoshi had a nice treat that day.

Miss it.
